For the GPU-register issue CVE-2024-21969, AMD lists a graphics-driver mitigation for discrete Radeon RX 7000 cards. The driver’s mitigation mode is off by default and must be enabled by an administrator, so installing the driver alone does not enable that mode.
What AMD’s RX 7000 security notice covers
AMD-SB-6013, “Uninitialized GPU Register Access”, covers CVE-2024-21969. AMD describes a flaw in which GPU registers may not be cleared properly, allowing a malicious shader to read leftover pixel data and causing a loss of confidentiality. AMD rates the issue Medium severity; that label is not an estimate of the risk to any particular user.
AMD’s listed Windows mitigation for discrete RX 7000 graphics cards is AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.6.1 (25.10.13.01), released June 5, 2025. That is the version recorded in the bulletin, not a claim that it is the newest driver available now. Check AMD’s support downloads for a driver that matches your exact card and operating system.
What to do on Windows
- Identify your card and operating system. Confirm that you have a discrete Radeon RX 7000-series card, then use AMD’s support page to find the current driver package for that product and Windows version.
- Install the applicable AMD graphics driver. The bulletin’s RX 7000 Windows mitigation entry is Adrenalin Edition 25.6.1 (25.10.13.01); use AMD’s current support listing to determine the applicable package rather than assuming that bulletin version remains current.
- Decide whether to enable mitigation mode. AMD says the mode is not enabled by default and must be set by an administrator. Follow the instructions in the applicable release notes or product documentation; the bulletin does not direct owners to flash a vBIOS.
Understand the mitigation’s performance trade-off
AMD says mitigation mode prevents processes from running in parallel on the GPU and clears registers between processes on supported products. AMD warns that enabling it may affect performance, particularly when multiple processes would otherwise run simultaneously on the GPU. Consider the system’s workload when deciding whether to enable the administrator-controlled mode.

Linux users should check Linux-specific guidance
AMD-SB-6013 lists the RX 7000 mitigation entry for Windows; that row does not establish a discrete RX 7000 Linux mitigation. Linux users should consult AMD’s current Linux support guidance for their card and operating system rather than applying the Windows version or instructions by assumption.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Match updates to the vulnerability, not just the card series
AMD publishes separate bulletins for different vulnerabilities, and an RX 7000 mention does not mean every listed fix addresses CVE-2024-21969. For example, AMD-SB-6018 lists other CVEs and RX 7000 driver entries, while AMD-SB-6024 covers additional vulnerabilities and software mitigations. Check the CVE and product details in the relevant bulletin before treating an update as the fix for this issue.
