Not by itself. YouTube can recommend livestreams, but its published guidance does not say that staying live around the clock earns a recommendation boost. For Indian creators, a 24/7 stream is best treated as a programming choice to test—not a shortcut to discovery. What matters is whether the right viewers choose to watch and find the stream satisfying.
How YouTube recommendations work
YouTube describes recommendations as a way to match content with individual viewers. Its guidance groups the relevant factors into personalization and performance:
- Personalization: viewing routines, watch history, interests, subscriptions, language, and interactions help shape what a viewer may be interested in.
- Viewer response: when content is offered, YouTube considers whether people choose it, keep watching, and show signs of satisfaction.
- Changing demand and competition: topic interest, competing content, and seasonal changes can affect reach. A video may receive fewer impressions even if its channel-relative performance looks good, if other content is doing better for the same audience.
YouTube’s recommendation explainer says its system uses “over 80 billion pieces of information” called signals. That is YouTube’s own published figure; the page does not state a publication year. Most importantly for this question, YouTube says experimenting with Shorts, VODs, or livestreams “will not inherently confuse the algorithm or negatively impact a channel’s overall performance.” That means trying a livestream format does not inherently damage the channel; it does not mean that livestreaming—or staying live continuously—will earn more recommendations. YouTube also notes that viewer response can differ by format and audience: disinterest in one format does not mean all of a creator’s content stops being shown to everyone. What this means for Indian creators
There is no published India-specific result establishing that creators who stream 24/7 are recommended more often than comparable creators who do not. YouTube’s India-facing creator FAQ says channel location settings are not used to inform recommendations, so setting a channel location to India is not a recommendation lever. A stream can still serve viewers in different Indian time zones or people who want to join at varied hours. But all-day availability is not the same thing as all-day demand. The useful question is whether a continuous programme has a clear audience and delivers something viewers want whenever they arrive.

When a continuous stream may make sense
A 24/7 stream may be a reasonable format when its content is genuinely useful or engaging to people arriving at different times—for example, a live event, an ambient scene, or a continuous service. This is a practical inference from YouTube’s stated focus on audience interest and response, not a platform rule or a promise of reach.
If the stream is only a static loop or its purpose is unclear, there is no published basis to expect its duration alone to solve discovery. Decide what a viewer gets from joining now, and make that promise clear in the title, description, and stream itself.

Choose a live format for the viewing experience
YouTube says vertical livestreams can appear in the Shorts feed, where viewers can scroll through them; horizontal streams do not appear in that feed. The formats also differ in features: horizontal streams support clickable links in chat and the channel description, as well as live ad pre-rolls and mid-rolls; those features are unavailable for the vertical live feed. Choose based on the audience and interaction your stream needs, not on an assumption that one orientation guarantees recommendations. YouTube’s livestream setup documentation describes discovery and format-specific features.
To livestream, YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its documented options include mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. These are operational requirements and setup choices, not evidence of a recommendation advantage.

How to test whether 24/7 streaming is helping
Compare a continuous-stream period with your usual schedule over enough time to account for changes in topic interest and seasonality. Make comparisons as similar as possible: use comparable topics, titles, formats, and audience windows rather than attributing every change to uptime.
- Set a baseline. Record how your usual scheduled videos or livestreams perform before changing the schedule.
- Run the test with a clear content promise. Keep track of what is being streamed and when, so you can distinguish the effect of a schedule from a change in content.
- Review audience and discovery signals in Analytics. Examine impressions and traffic sources, click-through rate where available, watch time, average view duration, unique viewers, concurrent-viewer patterns, and returning viewers.
- Look specifically for recommendation traffic and viewer retention. Hours online alone do not show whether the stream is being discovered or watched.
- Compare like with like and make a decision. Use the results to decide whether the continuous format serves viewers better than your normal schedule; do not treat one topic’s or season’s performance as a universal result.
YouTube recommends using Unique Viewers as a clearer view of active audience size than subscriber count. Its India-facing FAQ also points creators to the “When your viewers are on YouTube” report in Analytics: use it to schedule important live activity when your audience is available, especially when early participation matters. Timing may help initial live viewership; YouTube’s recommendation guidance says publishing time is not known to affect a video’s long-term viewership. Neither point demonstrates a benefit from being live all day.

Keep the stream running: DIY or cloud-hosted
If you want to try a continuous stream, YouTube documents livestreaming through mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. A creator using an encoder can connect equipment such as cameras and microphones. Choose a method that suits the production you want; the available evidence does not establish that buying equipment or choosing an encoder increases recommendation likelihood.

Copyright and channel policy still matter
A continuous stream does not bypass YouTube’s rules. Use content you have the right to stream and consider whether a loop gives viewers a meaningful experience. YouTube’s recommendation guidance does not promise that repeated or continuously available content will be recommended; the relevant test remains whether viewers choose it and respond well. Before launching, review YouTube’s live-stream requirements and policies, including restrictions on streaming, and check that your channel meets the verification and restriction requirements.
