What “cloud hosting for YouTube” means
Uploading a video from a mini PC does not make the PC a replacement for YouTube’s platform. In YouTube Studio, you select and upload a file; YouTube processes it and converts its resolution to the highest resolution available for playback. The creator’s computer uses electricity for tasks such as editing, encoding, and transferring the file. YouTube’s platform handles the video viewers watch.
You can keep original files on local storage, but a video intended for viewers on YouTube must be uploaded to YouTube. YouTube does not publish a hosting price or per-video energy cost in the cited help material, so there is no supported YouTube hosting bill for a mini PC to beat.
How to estimate a mini PC’s electricity cost
Use average power measured at the wall during the work you actually do. Processor TDP is not the same as system wall draw, and a device’s consumption can vary between editing, encoding, uploading, and idle time. A plug-in electricity monitor can help measure the whole computer’s draw.

The annual electricity-cost formula is:
Average watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per year × your electricity price per kWh
For a continuously-on system, use 8,760 hours per year. As an arithmetic example—not a measured mini PC result—a system averaging 10 W all year at an assumed $0.12 per kWh would cost about $10.51 annually: 10 ÷ 1,000 × 8,760 × $0.12. Substitute your own measured wattage and tariff; if you only use the PC for a few hours each week, calculate with those hours instead.

One secondary home-server guide estimates $6–50 per year for a modern self-hosting setup using an assumed $0.12/kWh rate. That range covers different devices and workloads; it is not a measurement of a particular fanless mini PC or YouTube upload workflow.
Compare your current PC with a fanless mini PC
Estimate the electricity difference first, then account for whether the new computer can handle your work and what it costs to buy. A lower electricity bill alone does not establish a payback period.

Will a lower-power PC make uploads faster?
Not necessarily. YouTube says upload time depends on file size, bandwidth, upload traffic, and video quality; higher-quality video takes longer. A slow or unstable internet connection can make an upload slow or stuck. A more efficient computer may lower local electricity use without improving the connection or upload time.

YouTube accepts a range of file formats, including MOV, MPEG-4, MP4, AVI, WebM, ProRes, and HEVC; that is not the complete list. Its recommended upload settings describe MP4 as a container and H.264 as a recommended video codec, with guidance that varies by resolution and frame rate.
