Not as a general rule. An ARM VPS may cost less for a particular provider and workload, but the architecture label alone cannot tell you which plan is cheaper—or whether it can keep your stream running. Compare current prices, transfer allowances, and sustained performance using your actual video, settings, and software. YouTube specifies stream settings, not a required CPU architecture or universal VPS size.
What determines the real cost?
A VPS bill is only one part of the cost of running a continuous prerecorded-video stream. Compare plans in the same region and billing context, then account for the work of setting up and maintaining the stream.
- Plan price and resources: Compare the recurring price, vCPU count, memory, storage, and billing period.
- Data transfer: A continuous outbound stream uses bandwidth. Check the included allowance, regional terms, and overage charges rather than comparing sticker prices alone.
- What the software does: Relaying a compatible, already-encoded file without changing its video may demand different CPU resources than decoding and re-encoding it. Confirm the behavior of your chosen software and test the actual workload; there is no quantified result here for every setup.
- Administration and recovery: A self-managed VPS leaves you responsible for configuring and maintaining the streaming process and deciding how to recover from interruptions.
For example, Amazon Lightsail’s published Linux public-IPv4 bundles listed a 2 GB plan at $12/month with 2 vCPUs, 60 GB storage, and 3 TB transfer, and a 4 GB plan at $24/month with 2 vCPUs, 80 GB storage, and 4 TB transfer. These are AWS pricing examples from its page retrieved October 3, 2026—not a matched ARM-versus-x86 comparison or a guarantee that either plan can sustain a particular encode. AWS notes that transfer allowances can vary by region. Check the current Lightsail pricing and regional terms before choosing.
What the ARM price and benchmark claims actually show
AWS’s price claim is specific to EC2
AWS says its Graviton-based EC2 instances cost up to 20% less than comparable x86-based Amazon EC2 instances. That is an AWS claim about comparable EC2 instances—not a guarantee about third-party VPS offers or the total cost of running your YouTube loop. Read the AWS Graviton information in that scope.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The encoding study is dated and workload-specific
A 2021 IEEE study, “Where to Encode: A Performance Analysis of x86 and Arm-based Amazon EC2 Instances,” tested selected Graviton2 Arm and x86 EC2 families with FFmpeg, x264, and x265. It reported time and cost savings of up to 33.63% in selected experiments, particularly for x264, but its recommendations varied by codec, bitrate, and preset; it favored x86 for some tested combinations, including some x265 cases. The result is not a current ranking of all ARM and x86 VPS plans, nor a prediction for an untested loop. See the IEEE study for its scope and findings.
Choose the stream settings before sizing the VPS
YouTube’s official encoder guidance gives recommendations for what your encoder sends to YouTube; it does not specify how much CPU or memory a VPS needs for a prerecorded loop. Its guidance includes RTMPS for ordinary streaming, H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, constant bitrate encoding, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a 2-second keyframe frequency (not over 4 seconds). Follow the recommended bitrate row for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than treating one example as universal.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
| Example YouTube setting | H.264 bitrate | AV1 or H.265 bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are examples from YouTube’s recommended bitrate table, not universal settings for every stream. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for the row matching your stream. The guidance recommends testing before going live, including audio and video movement similar to the intended stream, and monitoring stream health.
How to compare candidate VPS plans
- Match the context. Compare current offers in the same region and billing period. Note any regional differences in transfer allowance.
- Define the actual workload. Record the file format, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and whether your software relays or re-encodes the video.
- Check the provider’s full terms. Record vCPU, memory, storage, included outbound transfer, and overage exposure alongside the monthly charge.
- Test sustained performance. Run the intended loop and watch CPU use, stream health, and interruptions under the settings you plan to use. A low price or ARM label is not evidence that the instance can sustain your workload.
- Count operational effort. Include the time required to configure, monitor, update, and recover your self-managed process when comparing it with a service that handles those tasks.
There is no established cheapest plan for every reader: the answer depends on provider, region, stream profile, software, and re-encoding behavior. The AWS examples and the 2021 study do not settle that individual comparison.

Remember YouTube’s monetization rules
Keeping a video live continuously does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube says monetized content should be original and authentic, and that mass-produced, generic, or repetitive content can be ineligible; its policy applies to live streams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify its treatment of repetitive or mass-produced content. A loop is a broadcast format, not a promise of monetization eligibility. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
