Yes. Asphalt 8 is available on Android through Google Play, but it is not compatible with every Android phone or tablet. The quickest check is to open the official listing on the device you want to use: if Google Play offers Install, it currently recognizes that device as compatible. If it reports that the device is incompatible, there is no guaranteed workaround.
Is Asphalt 8 still available on Android?
Yes. The U.S. Google Play listing for Asphalt 8 – Car Racing Game identifies Gameloft SE as the developer. The listing describes single-player and multiplayer racing, more than 300 licensed cars and motorcycles, and more than 75 tracks. It is free to install, but contains ads and optional in-app purchases. Its package ID is com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA8HM.
The listing confirms Android availability, not that every Android device can run the game. Google Play applies compatibility rules to individual devices, and availability can differ even between devices using the same Android release. The result may depend on the model, Android version, hardware, screen or form factor, region, and other developer-defined requirements. See Google Play’s compatibility guidance.
There is no single minimum Android version to rely on for every device based on the current information available here. A newer Android version does not guarantee compatibility, and an older device that once installed the game may stop being eligible after a game or system update.

Check compatibility before installing
- Open the Google Play Store on the Android device you plan to use.
- Search for Asphalt 8 – Car Racing Game and confirm the developer is Gameloft SE.
- Check whether the page offers Install. If so, Google Play currently recognizes that device as eligible.
- If the game appears without an install option, or is marked incompatible, check the Play Store page’s device or compatibility information if it is shown.
A search result alone does not prove that the game can be installed. The device-specific Play Store page is the practical check; results on another phone, tablet, or in a browser may differ.
Install the official version and allow for extra data
Install from the official Play Store listing rather than starting with an APK from an unofficial site. After tapping Install, use a reliable internet connection and let the game finish downloading its additional content before judging whether it launches or offers all modes.
Gameloft’s Asphalt 8 support FAQ says more than 1.8 GB of internal storage is required for additional content. Treat that as the FAQ’s stated requirement, not as a guaranteed total installed size on every device: updates, cache, and temporary installation files can require more room. Keeping extra internal storage free can help avoid interrupted downloads and updates.

Offline play still needs an initial download
Google Play labels Asphalt 8 as playable offline, but that does not mean the game can be installed and played immediately without a connection. Gameloft says additional content must be fully downloaded before Offline, Multiplayer, or Local Wi-Fi modes can be used. Multiplayer, live events, advertising, and account synchronization may require an internet connection even after that download. Offline support should not be read as a promise that every feature works offline.
What “This device isn’t compatible” means
The message generally means Google Play is not currently offering the game for that device, configuration, or region. Possible factors include an unsupported model or chipset, Android version or firmware, screen or form factor, regional availability, or changes introduced by a system or game update. Rooting or modified firmware can also interfere with device recognition, according to Gameloft’s troubleshooting guidance.
Try these checks before concluding that the problem is permanent:
- Check the exact device model and Android version in Settings.
- Open the listing in the Play Store app on that device, not just in a browser, and check its compatibility information.
- Restart the device, check for system updates, and try again later if the Play Store seems to be reporting a temporary download or update problem.
- If the device is rooted or running modified firmware, recognize that it may not be identified correctly; changing firmware is not a guaranteed fix.
Gameloft acknowledges that devices can become incompatible and does not give a universal timetable for restoring compatibility. Avoid assuming that a workaround or a different device’s result guarantees success.

Fix a failed download or update
For a download that stalls, fails, or will not update, work through these steps in order:
- Cancel the download and start it again; then restart the device.
- Check that Wi-Fi is stable and that enough internal storage is available.
- Close other apps and try again. Check for Android or game updates if the device can access them.
- If the problem persists, clear Google Play Store’s cache. On many Android devices, the path is Settings → Apps → See all apps → Google Play Store → Storage & cache → Clear cache. Exact labels vary by manufacturer and Android version.
- Gameloft also recommends clearing Google Play Store data for persistent download problems. This can reset Play Store settings, so try clearing the cache first. If Download Manager appears in the app list, Gameloft’s guidance also suggests clearing its cache.
- Restart the download. If the Play Store says an update is unavailable despite showing an update prompt, try again later.
These are Google Play download fixes; they cannot make a device eligible if the store has classified it as incompatible.

If the game installs but crashes or gets stuck, first exit it, close background apps, restart the device, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and try again with other demanding apps closed. Make sure there is free internal storage. If the problem continues, clear the game’s cache before considering more disruptive steps.

Clearing data or reinstalling can put local progress at risk if it has not been linked or synchronized.

Protect and restore your progress
Gameloft says progress is saved automatically and, when you are logged in, saved in the cloud. Its support FAQ says progress can be recovered after reinstalling or changing devices by signing into the same linked account used to save the game. Before clearing data or uninstalling, confirm that the account is linked and that you can sign back into it.
Do not assume a save transfers between Android and iOS: Gameloft’s cited FAQ describes synchronization as limited to devices on the same platform. It also warns that using multiple devices or accounts at the same time can create progress conflicts. Recovery depends on the account and synchronization being set up correctly; it is not a guarantee for unlinked local saves.
Phones, tablets, Chromebooks, TVs, and emulators
- Android tablets: They may work if Google Play marks the particular tablet compatible. Screen size and hardware can affect eligibility.
- Chromebooks: Android apps can behave differently on Chromebooks, and touchscreen-dependent controls may be awkward or unavailable. Check the listing on the Chromebook itself; Google’s compatibility guidance notes that app behavior can vary.
- Android TV: Do not assume support because the TV runs Android. Use the official listing on that device and do not expect installation unless it is offered.
- Emulators: Compatibility is variable. Graphics, input, Google Play certification, and account support can all cause problems; do not treat an emulator as a supported substitute for an eligible Android device.
- Rooted or modified phones: Modified firmware may lead to incorrect device recognition or compatibility failures.
Controller support
Gameloft’s support FAQ lists several controllers, including MOGA Pro and Pocket, iPega PG-9025, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 controllers, MINIX NEO X7, and a G910 controller used with OpenPad Union software. This is legacy documentation, not a guarantee for every current Bluetooth controller or Android version. Controller behavior can vary by device, connection method, and game build; check the specific controller with the game before relying on it.
