Yes—GameStop lists controllers as trade-in items, and it has trade-value pages for select Xbox and PlayStation models. That does not mean every used controller is eligible or every store will take yours: GameStop limits the program to select products and participating stores in the United States and Guam, and the store determines the controller’s condition and final value.
Which controllers does GameStop accept?
GameStop’s trade-in page includes controllers among the categories it accepts. Its listings include examples such as an Xbox Series X controller and a PlayStation DualSense controller, but those pages are not a complete list of eligible models. Acceptance depends on the specific product and participating store.
Before visiting, search GameStop’s current trade listings for your exact controller model and contact the local store to confirm it accepts that item. A product page or online value is not a guarantee of an in-store trade.
Does the controller have to work?
GameStop says traded products must be in good condition, and it determines condition and trade value at its discretion. Controller product listings specify that full working condition is required for full value. If your controller has stick drift, damaged buttons, missing parts, or another fault, do not assume it will be accepted; ask the store whether it can take that specific item.

GameStop’s trade terms state that product condition and trade value are determined by the company in its sole discretion. Its help article, last updated May 26, 2026, says eligibility and final value are determined in store at the register. The store’s inspection is therefore decisive.
Do you need to bring the console or original accessories?
No published rule in the cited standalone controller listings says a controller must be paired with its original console. Console trade-ins are different: GameStop’s FAQ says to bring the functional parts needed for the item to work, and specifically identifies the original controller and cables for console trades. Missing components can reduce value or lead to a decline, but that console-bundle requirement should not be assumed to apply to a controller traded on its own.

How much will GameStop pay for a used controller?
There is no stable payout to quote for all used controllers. GameStop’s model-specific offers are time-limited and subject to approval and participating-store limits. One Xbox Series X controller offer page showed an offer generated on September 11, 2026, expiring that same day; it is not a current or guaranteed value.
Check the live listing for your exact model and confirm the amount and trade format with the store before you go. The store determines the final value after inspection.

- Find the exact make and model of your controller.
- Search GameStop’s trade listings for that model and review any condition or offer terms shown.
- Contact a participating local store to confirm it accepts the model and ask whether its condition is eligible.
- Bring the controller and any parts the store says are required. The store will determine eligibility and final value at the register.
