Need for Speed: Carbon did not gain native DLSS 5 support on PlayStation 2. A report published by GameGPU on October 5, 2026 describes an unofficial experiment that ran the PS2 game in the PCSX2 emulator and applied neural-rendering post-processing to the emulator’s output. It does not establish an official NVIDIA feature, a change to the PS2 game, or a reproducible setup.
What the DLSS 5 report describes
GameGPU’s October 5, 2026 report describes Need for Speed: Carbon running in PCSX2, with the emulator producing Direct3D 11 output. ReShade and RenoDX Generic v6.5.3 were used at the emulator-output stage, where they processed the completed frame rather than changing the game’s original image files. GameGPU’s report

According to the report, an early benchmark neural-rendering library processed frames in Multipass mode, using two passes at a working resolution of 2561×1425 pixels. Those are setup details attributed to GameGPU; the article does not provide a complete configuration that readers can independently reproduce.
What the experiment reportedly changed visually
GameGPU says the demonstration used night races and the garage. It reports reconstructed car paint, headlight reflections, and asphalt textures, along with fewer low-resolution artifacts and added volumetric shading on 2D geometric elements. These are the article’s visual claims, not independently measured or verified results.

Why this is not DLSS support on a PS2
The distinction is where the processing happens. The report describes a game rendered by an emulator, followed by external processing of the emulator’s output. It does not describe DLSS running on PS2 hardware, a modified Carbon executable, or an official integration into the game. The headline’s wording can suggest a game feature, but the described method is an unofficial emulator-output experiment.
GameGPU also says official DLSS 5 availability was limited to GeForce RTX 50-series cards and NBA 2K27, describing other uses as unofficial. The report is the only substantive source for that compatibility statement here, and no primary NVIDIA confirmation is established. Treat it as GameGPU’s claim rather than definitive current compatibility information.

Can you reproduce it in PCSX2?
The report does not include a reproducible installation guide, full settings list, verified download source, or controlled performance results. It therefore does not establish which files or settings a reader needs, whether the described configuration remains available, how it performs on particular hardware, or whether another PCSX2 setup will produce the same image. The article is evidence of a reported demonstration, not a dependable step-by-step guide.
In this setup, PCSX2 is described as rendering the game and outputting frames through Direct3D 11; ReShade and RenoDX Generic are placed after that rendering stage to process the finished output. That distinction explains the reported approach without implying that either tool adds native DLSS support to the PS2 game.
