Roblox says it removes or disables access to content identified in a valid copyright notice or otherwise known to infringe, and it may suspend or terminate accounts for repeat or egregious infringement in appropriate circumstances. Creators must own or be fully authorized to grant rights in every part of the UGC they publish. Those are Roblox’s platform rules—not a legal ruling on whether a particular use is lawful.
What Roblox’s copyright policy means for creators
Roblox’s Terms of Use set out a process for copyright complaints. The policy says Roblox will remove or disable access to material identified in a valid DMCA notice or otherwise known to infringe. It also says Roblox may suspend or terminate an account in appropriate circumstances when a user repeatedly or egregiously infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights. That does not mean every allegation results in an automatic ban.
Creators are responsible for rights in what they publish. Roblox’s Creator Terms state: “Creator must not Publish or otherwise make any UGC available on the Services if Creator is not the owner of or is not fully authorized to grant rights in all parts of that UGC.” That applies to components such as music, images, and meshes as well as a finished creation. Keep permission or licensing records for assets you use.
How Roblox handles copyright complaints
Copyright notices
Under the US Terms of Use, a copyright notice should include the authorized person’s physical or electronic signature; identify the protected work and the allegedly infringing material, including where it is located; provide the complainant’s address, telephone number, and email; state a good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized; and include an accuracy and authority statement under penalty of perjury. Roblox warns that an incomplete notice may not be valid.

Roblox may send a copy of the notice, including the complainant’s contact information, to the person responsible for the reported material. The terms list [email protected] and a postal contact for the US Copyright Agent. Check the live terms for the current contact details and requirements before submitting anything.
IP Platform Claims for certain UGC
Roblox’s IP Platform Terms describe Claims as a way for eligible rights holders or authorized representatives to resolve disputes directly with users over certain UGC. A Claim is not itself a DMCA or IP takedown notice, and does not establish that infringement has occurred. If a Claim is undisputed, specified UGC can be delisted from the marketplace or creator store, while users who already obtained it may continue to use it. If the user disputes the Claim, the rights holder can escalate by submitting an IP takedown notice. Access to the program is eligibility-based and may be revoked. These terms show a last-updated date of September 23, 2026.

What to do if Roblox removes your content
Start by reading the notification and identifying which process applies. A DMCA counter-notice and a general moderation appeal are different routes.

If you received a DMCA takedown
If Roblox removed or disabled your content because of a DMCA notice and you believe it is not infringing or that you have authorization, the US terms allow you to send a counter-notice to the Copyright Agent. Roblox may forward it to the original complainant. Roblox says it may restore the content or re-enable access, at its discretion, within 10 to 14 business days or more after receiving the counter-notice, unless the complainant files an action seeking a court order. This is not a guaranteed deadline or outcome.

A counter-notice has legal consequences; it is not a casual moderation appeal. Submit one only if you honestly believe you have a legal basis and understand the process. If you are unsure about your rights or the consequences, seek advice from a qualified lawyer.
If you received a moderation action
Roblox’s appeal guidance says eligible content or account moderation can be appealed through the channel named in the moderation notification: Violations & Appeals or the Support form. The general period stated is 30 days. Roblox says EU users have six months to appeal an initial moderation action and describes additional dispute options. Only the account owner may appeal, and a moderation decision that has already been reviewed cannot be reviewed again. These general appeal rules do not replace the DMCA counter-notice process.

How Roblox detects and reviews uploads
Roblox describes a multi-step review process for creator uploads such as images, meshes, audio, and video. Its moderation information says audio files are scanned for intellectual-property infringement, flagged material may be reviewed by people, and systems are used to prevent re-uploading identical or similar content previously removed.
Roblox says enforcement can vary with the violation and the user’s history, and repeat policy violations may lead to more severe action. This does not establish that every unauthorized upload will be detected, that automated systems always identify ownership correctly, or that a complaint will be resolved on a fixed schedule.

Platform enforcement is not a copyright-law decision
Roblox can apply its own platform rules and process notices, but a moderation decision does not determine whether a use is licensed, fair use, or otherwise lawful. The reviewed platform policies do not settle the legal status of a particular song, image, mesh, or other asset under the law that applies to you. When a dispute turns on your legal rights or a possible defense, get advice from a qualified lawyer rather than treating a Roblox moderation outcome as a court ruling.
