Does the GeForce RTX 5090 Have a 512-Bit Bus? VRAM and 5090D V2 Explained

Yes. The standard GeForce RTX 5090 shipped with a 512-bit memory interface and 32 GB of GDDR7. The conflicting 24 GB and 384-bit figures refer to the separate China-market RTX 5090D V2, not a quiet cut to the standard card.

What are the RTX 5090’s official memory specifications?

NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 reference specifications list 32 GB of GDDR7 memory on a 512-bit interface. That confirms the bus-width rumor for the standard desktop RTX 5090: it is not a 448-bit card.

NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture document lists a 28 Gbps memory data rate and 1,792 GB/s of bandwidth for the RTX 5090. These are related but distinct measures: 512 bits is the width of the memory interface, while bandwidth describes the rate at which data can move across it.

Why does the RTX 5090 have a 512-bit bus?

NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture documentation describes the full GB202 design as having sixteen 32-bit memory controllers. Together, those controllers make a 512-bit interface. The full GB202 design contains 92.2 billion transistors; that figure describes the GPU design, rather than a separate measure of memory capacity or bandwidth.

Why are some reports saying 24 GB and 384-bit?

Those figures concern the RTX 5090D V2, a distinct China-market variant. Tom’s Hardware reported in 2025 that the 5090D V2 has 24 GB of VRAM and a 384-bit bus. NVIDIA’s cited standard RTX 5090 product specification does not document that regional model, so comparisons should keep the full SKU name and market clear.

Early pre-launch leaks also floated other possible bus widths, including 448 bits. The shipping specification settles the question for the regular RTX 5090: 512 bits. A 384-bit report about the 5090D V2 does not indicate that NVIDIA revised the standard RTX 5090 downward.

What should PC builders check?

NVIDIA lists 1,000 W as the required system power for its reference RTX 5090 and notes that add-in-card specifications can vary. Treat that figure as NVIDIA’s system-power requirement for the reference card, not as a guarantee that every board-partner model has identical power needs. Check the exact card’s documentation and the requirements for the complete system before choosing a power supply.

  • Identify the SKU: confirm whether a listing is for the standard RTX 5090 or the RTX 5090D V2.
  • Check the board: partner-card dimensions and specifications can differ from NVIDIA’s reference design.
  • Plan for the whole system: use the exact card maker’s requirements alongside NVIDIA’s reference guidance.

Does the 32 GB configuration matter for creators?

NVIDIA’s January 30, 2025 creator article describes the RTX 5090 as having 32 GB of GDDR7 and 1,792 GB/s of bandwidth. It also documents three encoders, two decoders, 4:2:2 support, and NVIDIA Broadcast features for creator workflows. Those capabilities may matter to video production and streaming, but they do not change the standard card’s memory-interface specification.
