No. PS4 consoles do not provide composite RCA (yellow video, red and white audio) or component video output. Sony’s documented display connection is the console’s HDMI OUT port. If your TV has only red, white and yellow inputs, you’ll need an HDMI-to-composite converter rather than a simple RCA cable.
What AV ports does a PS4 have?
Sony’s PS4 setup guidance shows the console connected to a display through HDMI OUT, and its manual identifies HDMI OUT as a video output. The documented rear-panel connections do not include composite RCA or component video output. A standard RCA lead therefore cannot connect a PS4 directly to a TV’s composite inputs. What the ports mean
- HDMI OUT: the PS4’s documented connection for video to a TV or monitor; HDMI also carries audio.
- DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL): a digital audio output found on some models. It is not an analog video port.
How do I connect a PS4 to a TV?
If the TV has HDMI
Connect an HDMI cable from the PS4’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on the TV, then select that input on the TV. Sony’s setup instruction says: “Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the back of your PS4® console.” Sony’s setup instructions show this connection. Sony’s manual lists an HDMI cable among the supplied items, so you may already have one; a replacement is only needed if it is missing or faulty.
If the TV has only red, white and yellow inputs
You’ll need an HDMI-to-composite converter between the PS4 and TV. A passive RCA cable will not convert the PS4’s HDMI signal to analog composite video. Sony documents the console ports, but does not certify third-party converters; compatibility depends on the particular converter and display.

Before choosing a converter, check its supported output format and resolution, whether it needs external power, and how it handles audio. No specific converter has been verified here, so confirm these details with the device manufacturer and your TV’s specifications.
Does every PS4 have an optical audio port?
No. Sony’s rear-panel diagrams show an optical digital audio output on PS4 CUH-1000/1100, CUH-1200 and PS4 Pro families. It is absent from the CUH-2000/2100/2200 family diagrams; Sony’s audio guidance specifically says the CUH-2000 series has no optical digital output terminal. These model differences concern audio, not video: the documented PS4 display connection remains HDMI OUT. Sony’s model diagrams and Sony’s audio-output guidance provide the model details.

How to identify your PS4’s connections
Look at the rear of the console and find the model-family label, or compare its rear panel with Sony’s model diagrams. HDMI OUT is the display connection. If you are checking for optical audio, look for the square DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) socket; its presence varies by model family. Do not mistake it for an RCA video output: it carries digital audio only.
