Wowza Video supports scheduled starts and stops for streams, but the documentation reviewed does not confirm that it can schedule a YouTube event or reliably deliver a continuous stream to YouTube. Wowza Streaming Cloud is now called Wowza Video. Treat Wowza scheduling and YouTube event scheduling as separate until you verify the current destination options and complete workflow in your account.
What Wowza scheduling does
Wowza documentation describes schedules that start and/or stop live streams or transcoders, either once or on a recurring basis. A scheduled Wowza stream continues until you stop it manually or a stop schedule runs. For a finite broadcast, configure a planned stop rather than assuming the scheduled start will end automatically. Wowza’s scheduling documentation explains the available schedule behavior.
One-time and recurring schedules
Choose a one-time schedule for a single broadcast and a recurring schedule when the same start or stop timing needs to repeat. Confirm the intended start and stop times in the current account before relying on either schedule for an event.
What is not confirmed about YouTube
The reviewed Wowza materials do not establish that YouTube is a native destination, that a YouTube event can be scheduled through Wowza, or that Wowza automatically handles YouTube event setup. Wowza API materials describe custom external destinations, but generic external-target support does not by itself verify YouTube compatibility or the credentials and ingest details required. The custom-destination documentation is a starting point to check, not proof of a working YouTube configuration.

Wowza’s name has changed from Streaming Cloud to Wowza Video. Wowza says existing Streaming Cloud customers retain UI and API functionality, with a newer interface; labels and navigation may therefore vary by account. Wowza’s product-renaming notice explains that transition.
Checks to make before scheduling a YouTube broadcast
- Check the destination in your current Wowza account. Look for YouTube as an available destination or confirm with Wowza whether a custom external target can be configured for your specific setup.
- Verify YouTube-side event details. Use current YouTube instructions to confirm whether the broadcast requires a separately created event, stream credentials, or other setup. Do not assume a Wowza schedule creates or schedules the YouTube event.
- Test the entire signal path. Confirm that the source reaches Wowza, that Wowza reaches the intended YouTube destination, and that the YouTube event behaves as expected before the audience arrives.
- Plan both ends of the timing. Check the Wowza start and stop schedule and the YouTube event’s expected behavior. A Wowza start schedule alone does not establish when YouTube will begin or end showing the broadcast.
- Test disconnect and restart behavior. Establish what happens if the source, Wowza stream, or YouTube connection drops. The reviewed material does not settle how those interruptions are handled for a continuous YouTube stream.
Can it keep a YouTube stream running continuously?
The documentation confirms that a Wowza stream can continue until manually stopped or stopped by a schedule; it does not confirm that an indefinitely continuous YouTube broadcast is supported or guaranteed. A continuous setup also depends on a source that remains live and on the behavior of both Wowza and YouTube during disconnects and restarts. Verify those parts in your account and test them before treating the workflow as continuous.

Wowza getting-started material describes feeding a camera or encoder stream into Wowza Video. That establishes possible source types, not a requirement to buy dedicated hardware: first check whether your existing camera or encoder can provide the needed stream.
