If Dota 2 is missing from your Steam Library, first check that you are signed into the right account, clear Library filters, and look in Hidden Games. If you recently bought the game, confirm the transaction completed before refreshing Steam or contacting support. These checks target the most likely causes without starting with file verification, which only helps when the game is already installed.
1. Make sure you are using the right Steam account
If Dota 2 and other games you previously activated have disappeared, check the account name shown in Steam before changing settings. Steam says missing games can indicate that you are signed into a different account. If you cannot identify the account, use Steam’s missing-games support guide to find accounts associated with your email address or phone number.
2. Clear Library filters and show all games
A Library filter can make games disappear from the list without removing them from your account. In the Steam client, open Library and change the view or filters so that all games are shown. Steam Support notes that an incorrectly set filter is a likely cause when you are sure you are using the correct account.
3. Check Steam’s Hidden Games view
Dota 2 may have been hidden from your Library. In Steam, select View > Hidden Games. If Dota 2 appears, right-click it and choose Manage > Remove from Hidden to restore it to the regular Library list. Steam documents this path in its Games Are Missing from my Library guide.

4. Check whether a recent purchase completed
If you expected Dota 2 to appear after a purchase, look for the Steam receipt email and check your Purchase History in Steam. A pending transaction may not yet add the game to your Library. If the transaction is not completed, resolve its status through Steam rather than trying to repair game files.
5. Sign out and back in after a completed purchase
If Purchase History shows the purchase as completed but Dota 2 is still missing, log out of the Steam client and sign back in. This refreshes the client session; it does not change the status of a pending transaction.

6. Use Dota 2’s Steam Support page
If the account, Library view, hidden list, and purchase status do not explain the problem, open Steam Support’s Dota 2 help page and choose “It’s not in my library.” Steam Support can address account or access questions that cannot be diagnosed from the Library view alone.
7. Verify game files only if Dota 2 is listed and installed
File verification is for an installed copy that is missing content or crashing; it does not restore ownership or make an absent Library entry appear. If Dota 2 is visible and installed but behaving incorrectly, restart Steam, open the game’s Properties > Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. Steam notes that some files can fail verification normally because local configuration files are not replaced. See its Verify Integrity of Game Files instructions.

- Many games are missing: check the active account first.
- Only Dota 2 or a few games are missing: clear filters and inspect Hidden Games.
- You just purchased Dota 2: check Purchase History, then refresh the client if the purchase is complete.
- Dota 2 is listed but has errors or crashes: verify its installed files.
Adding a non-Steam game to the Library only creates a shortcut; it does not restore Steam ownership or Steam-delivered updates. Also, Steam’s Private Games feature is not the same as hiding a game: private games remain visible to their owner in the Library. If none of these steps resolves an ownership or access issue, use Steam Support rather than assuming the entitlement is restored.
