The game was released on October 15, 2021; CyberConnect2 developed it and SEGA published it.
Official Windows download route
- Install Steam. Download and install the current Steam client from Valve, then sign in or create a Steam account.
- Open the exact product listing. Search Steam for Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles and confirm that the listing identifies CyberConnect2 as developer and SEGA as publisher.
- Purchase or redeem the game. Complete the transaction or enter a legitimate Steam key. A console disc or console-store purchase does not provide a Windows download.
- Install it. In Steam, open Library, select the game, choose Install, and select a drive with at least 25 GB available.
- Launch it. Select Play after installation. Steam handles updates, cloud saves and the Windows executable.
Avoid unofficial “free download” sites, repacked installers and cracks. They are not the official Windows distribution and can expose your PC or Steam account to malware, stolen credentials and unstable files.
Can your Windows PC run Hinokami Chronicles?
Steam lists the following requirements. The minimum specification targets low 720p at 30 frames per second; the recommended specification targets high 1080p at 30 frames per second. Steam also notes 8 GB of RAM for a 60 FPS target with the recommended setup.

Important Windows-version qualification
Windows 8.1 appears in the game’s older minimum requirements, but Steam states that its client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. Treat Windows 10 or newer as the practical baseline for installing and using Steam today; meeting the game’s Windows 8.1 line alone does not guarantee current Steam-client support.

How to check your PC
- Open Settings > System > About to check Windows edition, processor and installed RAM.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Performance, and select GPU to identify your graphics card and dedicated video memory.
- In File Explorer > This PC, check that the destination drive has at least 25 GB free; updates and Windows overhead make additional headroom advisable.
What is included in the Windows game?
SEGA describes it as “a spectacular arena fighter from the team at CyberConnect2” covering memorable moments from the Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc and Mugen Train Arc. The original English and Japanese casts return.

The Steam listing also identifies Denuvo Anti-tamper and a third-party end-user licence agreement. Review those disclosures before purchasing if anti-tamper software or licence terms affect your decision.

Buying and edition decisions
For this Windows-download question, the relevant option is the legitimate Steam digital licence. Use these checks before paying:

Installation and launch troubleshooting
Steam says there is not enough space
Free additional space on the selected drive, then retry the installation. Keep room for Steam updates and temporary installation files rather than relying on exactly 25 GB.

The game will not start
- Restart Steam and Windows, then install pending Steam and Windows updates.
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files, and run Verify integrity of game files.
- Update your NVIDIA or AMD graphics driver and close overlays or background tools that may interfere with launch.
- Confirm that your system is running 64-bit Windows 10 or later for current Steam-client compatibility.
Performance is below the target
Compare your hardware with the minimum and recommended rows, then lower resolution and quality settings. A minimum-specification PC is intended for low 720p at 30 FPS, not high-resolution or 60 FPS play.
You bought a console version
A PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch purchase cannot be installed through Steam. Obtain the Windows Steam edition separately.

Release context
SEGA announced that the game had shipped more than one million units worldwide on October 27, 2021. That shipment figure covers the release broadly and is not a measure of current Windows-player numbers or Steam sales.
