Two former Twitch employees were reported in June 2024 to have linked Dr Disrespect’s 2020 ban to messages with a minor on Twitch’s Whispers service. Guy Beahm, who streams as Dr Disrespect, later acknowledged that he exchanged messages with a minor in 2017 and said some conversations became inappropriate, while denying improper intent and criminal conduct. Twitch did not publicly explain the specific reason for the ban at the time, and the private messages have not been reproduced in the cited reporting.
Why was Dr Disrespect banned from Twitch?
Twitch permanently banned Beahm in June 2020 without publicly identifying the specific reason. The platform’s contemporaneous statement, as quoted by PC Gamer, said it takes appropriate action when it has evidence that a streamer violated its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. That general policy statement did not confirm the allegations later reported about Beahm.
In June 2024, two former Twitch employees were reported to have connected the ban to messages with a minor through Whispers, Twitch’s messaging service at the time. Their accounts were allegations about the reason for Twitch’s action, not a public release of the messages or an independently established account of their full content and context.
What did the two former Twitch employees say?
The anonymous former Trust and Safety employee
Tech Times, reporting on an account given to The Verge, said an anonymous former employee had worked on Twitch’s Trust and Safety team when the ban occurred. The employee reportedly said Beahm used Whispers to communicate with a minor and discuss meeting at TwitchCon.

The employee reportedly recalled a gap between the messages and a moderation report but could not remember how long it was. According to the account, Twitch received the report in 2020, investigated and then banned Beahm’s channel. The messages themselves were not reproduced in the public reporting cited here.
Cody Conners’s public allegation
Cody Conners, a former member of Twitch’s strategic partnerships team, publicly alleged that Beahm had been caught having an inappropriate and sexual conversation with a minor through Whispers. PC Gamer reported that Conners’s post did not name Beahm, though its subject was widely understood to be him. Tech Times said Conners’s allegation aligned with the anonymous former employee’s account.

Beahm characterized the exchanges as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate.” He said he had no real intentions, that nothing illegal happened and that he never met the individual. He also accepted moral responsibility, writing that he “should have never entertained these conversations to begin with.” Those are Beahm’s descriptions and denials, not independent verification of the messages.
