If your World of Warcraft action bars look empty after logging in, first check whether the bars are hidden or whether their spell icons are missing. Blizzard documented both action-bar problems on July 24, 2024, during the pre-expansion update period: extra bars 2–8 could be disabled at login, and spells might not save on logout for some characters. Blizzard’s notice does not establish whether either issue remains in the current client.
First, identify what disappeared
- The whole bar is missing: It may have been disabled in the interface settings.
- The bar is visible but its spell icons are gone: This matches the separate spell-save problem Blizzard described in 2024.
- The icons vanish after using Exit Game while mounted: A player report described this sequence for a sky-riding-capable mount; it is a distinct reported trigger, not an established cause of every empty-bar case.
Also note whether the problem affects one character or several, and whether it follows an ordinary logout or the mounted Exit Game sequence. Those details can help distinguish the reported patterns.
If extra action bars are hidden
- Open Options > Gameplay > Action Bars.
- Re-enable the extra action bars that are turned off.
- Check whether the spells and keybinds assigned to those bars appear again.
In its July 24, 2024 notice, Blizzard said some players’ extra bars 2–8 were disabled upon login and advised enabling them again in those settings. The notice said assigned spells and keybinds should display once the bars are enabled. Kaivax, the notice’s author, wrote: “We have a couple of known issues with Action Bars that we’re working to quickly fix.” That described Blizzard’s intent at the time, not confirmation of a completed fix.
If the bars are visible but their spells are gone
Blizzard said spells on characters level 10 and below might not save on logout. It also warned that some existing characters could lose bar spells if they had not created a new talent loadout. Players reported that creating a new talent loadout helped in some cases, but other reports said it did not work for everyone or every specialization. Treat it as an anecdotal workaround, not a guaranteed repair.

If the problem follows Exit Game while mounted
A July 29, 2024 technical-support report described this sequence: use Exit Game while mounted on a sky-riding-capable mount, then log in again and find the action bars empty. This is a player-reported reproduction, not a Blizzard-confirmed diagnosis. If it matches your experience, record the mount, character, specialization, and whether the bars were hidden or merely empty; avoid treating the report as proof that mounted exits explain other cases.
What is known about the current status
The reports here date to July 2024 and do not verify whether the issue persists or has recurred in the client current on October 8, 2026. Blizzard’s notice documents the issue and its settings guidance, but does not establish that a fix was completed. No prevalence count or percentage was provided, so there is no reliable basis here for estimating how many players were affected.
