Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the base game; Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is its paid expansion and, on some platforms, the name of a bundle that includes both. The expansion was scheduled to release on October 9, 2026, so as of October 4 its features are announced content, not post-launch-verified gameplay. Capcom’s announcement describes the expansion as adding a new story to the game released in March 2024.
One naming trap: Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the older first game’s title/expansion context. It is not the same product as the newly announced Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. Capcom France distinguishes the original game and its expansion from Dragon’s Dogma 2’s new adventure.
What’s different in the Dark Arisen expansion?
Capcom’s announced additions focus on a new northern story, challenge dungeons, rewards, and extra character-creator options. The publisher says the expansion is intended to add content and improve accessibility in response to feedback on the main game; that stated goal does not establish that any particular difficulty, usability, or performance issue has been fixed.
A new story in Norgan
The story takes place in the long-abandoned, snowy region of Norgan. Players join Eir as she investigates the Fallen Dragon. Capcom says appraisal of forgotten relics can unlock weapons and skills. These are details from the publisher’s product description, not an independent assessment of how the story plays.

Lost Rites dungeon challenges
Capcom lists Lost Rites as 12 dungeon challenges in the main area, with rare equipment associated with past Arisens. The count and reward description come from the Capcom Town expansion listing.
More character-creator options
The expansion listing also names additional hairstyles and tattoos for the Arisen and Pawns. The major content categories are repeated in the Xbox product listing.

Is Dark Arisen a separate game?
No: Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is an expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2, not a standalone sequel or renamed version of the base game. Capcom says the add-on cannot be used without Dragon’s Dogma 2 and may require the latest patch. The exact edition and purchase choices depend on platform.

What did the listed US prices show?
At the time the US store pages were accessed on October 4, 2026, the PlayStation Store showed $39.99 for Standard Edition, $49.99 for Dark Arisen, and $29.99 for the expansion add-on. The Xbox listing showed $49.99+ for the bundle and $29.99 for the expansion. Do you need Dragon’s Dogma 2 to play the expansion?
Yes. Capcom Town says the add-on cannot be used without Dragon’s Dogma 2.
