If Dressmaker closes, freezes, or will not launch on your Windows PC, start by checking the game’s minimum requirements, then work through Steam’s general launch troubleshooting steps: update Windows and drivers, verify the game files, and temporarily disable non-essential software. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed Dressmaker-specific fixes. If the whole computer blue-screens or restarts, treat it as a PC-level problem rather than a confirmed game crash.

Compare your system with each listed minimum, including available storage. If it falls short, address that compatibility issue before concluding that the game itself is defective; the listing does not establish that any particular upgrade will solve a crash.

Try Steam’s general launch troubleshooting
Steam recommends the following checks for games that fail to launch. They are general troubleshooting guidance, not confirmed cures for every Dressmaker crash. Steam Support: Games do not run after “Preparing to Launch”
- Update Windows and your computer’s drivers. Install available Windows updates and updates for your graphics and other computer drivers, then restart the PC and try Dressmaker again.
- Verify the installed game files in Steam. In your Steam Library, right-click Dressmaker and open Properties. Select Installed Files, then Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish before launching the game. Steam notes that corrupted files can cause launch problems.
- Temporarily disable non-essential applications. Close background software that is not needed to run the game, then retry. Change one thing at a time; if the symptom changes, you have a useful clue about a possible conflict.
Install the latest update and check for a matching tutorial issue
Make sure Steam has installed the latest Dressmaker update available to you before retrying a tutorial step. The official early announcements describe specific fixes, not a general crash remedy: Build 403 addressed a cursor that could disappear in the cutting-room tutorial, among other changes; Build 410 fixed a tutorial softlock caused by clicking the sketchbook before ringing the bell. If your issue matches one of those situations, update the game and retry the relevant step. Those notes do not establish that either issue explains unrelated crashes.

When Windows itself crashes or restarts
A blue or gray screen or forced PC restart points to a computer-level problem, not a confirmed Dressmaker or Steam fault.
