Drop + Lord of the Rings Dwarvish ENTR Keyboard Review: A Quality Dwarvish Deck

A substantial, tactile Lord of the Rings keyboard with striking Dwarvish styling—but its basic feature set and uncertain current availability complicate the premium.

The Drop Lord of the Rings Dwarvish ENTR is an 87-key wired tenkeyless keyboard built around its licensed Doors of Durin-inspired design and Holy Panda X tactile switches. It feels more substantial and distinctive than a basic office board, but its white-only lighting, lack of hot-swap support and limited features make the premium difficult to justify unless the Middle-earth theme is the point. Its quoted prices are historical, and current stock is not established.

What is the Drop LOTR Dwarvish keyboard?

It is a themed version of Drop’s ENTR tenkeyless (TKL) mechanical keyboard platform, made as an officially licensed collaboration with Middle-earth Enterprises. The Dwarvish design draws on the Doors of Durin. Its keycaps use Dwarvish-associated legends alongside small English training legends, so the board remains usable without requiring you to read the decorative script. The launch announcement described it as the first officially licensed Lord of the Rings keyboard collaboration; that was Drop’s launch-era description, not an independent endorsement. Drop’s August 2022 announcement gives the collaboration background.

Specification Dwarvish ENTR
Layout Tenkeyless, 87 keys
Connection Wired USB-C; supplied connection described as USB-A to USB-C
Switches Holy Panda X tactile switches, made by Gateron for Drop
Stabilizers Drop Phantom
Keycaps MT3 Dwarvish-themed doubleshot PBT caps; launch materials also identify a separately sold artisan keycap
Case Anodized aluminum
Lighting White LEDs with four brightness levels
Rollover N-key rollover
Dimensions and weight 14.2 × 5 × 1.25 inches; 2.05 pounds, as listed by HotHardware
Warranty Three years, according to launch specifications

Specifications and reviewer observations are reported by HotHardware’s August 2022 review and PC Gamer’s July 2023 review. PC Gamer describes the caps as dye-sublimated PBT, while Drop’s launch materials and HotHardware identify them as doubleshot PBT. Those descriptions differ, so the keycap printing method is not consistent across the available accounts.

How does it feel to type on?

HotHardware’s reviewer described the board as weighty, with smooth, positive tactility from the Holy Panda X switches. That tactile, springy feel is a more specific draw than the fantasy artwork: it suits someone who wants clear feedback while typing, rather than a light, quiet or linear switch experience. The reviewer also noted some stem wobble, so the switches were not described as perfectly stable.

DROP + The Lord of the Rings™ Dwarvish TKL Mechanical Keyboard - MT3 Profile Keycaps with Accent Keys - Holy Panda X Tactile Switches - PBT Dye-Sub Keycaps - LED Backlight - Dark Gray
  • Drop + The Lord of the Rings Dwarvish MT3 Keycaps: Capping off this Dwarvish stronghold is our MT3 Dwarvish Keycap Set—featuring Cirth legends with Khuzdul phrases, Latin alpha sublegends, and side-printed Latin modifier legends.
  • MT3 Profile: Scooped, Sculpted, Ultra-Satisfying: Our Dwarvish Keycaps don’t just look good. They feel incredible—with build quality worthy of the Dwarves themselves. That’s thanks to our PBT construction and our scooped, sculpted MT3 profile.
  • An Exclusive Drop ENTR Case, With Drop ENTR Electronics: Adding to the undeniably Dwarvish aesthetic, this master-crafted pre-built features a matching dark gray aluminum case with art by OSHETART depicting the Doors of Durin—plus white LED lighting.
  • Drop Holy Panda X Mechanical Switches: These fully engineered, ultra-consistent tactile switches refine the feel, sound, and reliability of the original Holy Panda Switches for a satisfying tactile bump that feels the exact same, every time.
  • Drop Phantom Stabilizers: Engineered for ultra-quiet keystrokes, these stabilizers feature abrasion-resistant, low-friction UHMWPE stems and exceptionally strong, non-resonant PA12 housings.

The aluminum case and tactile switches contribute to a more substantial impression than a typical entry-level keyboard, but the board remains a plug-and-type wired model. The available reviews do not establish measured latency, durability testing or comparative performance figures, so its appeal is best judged by layout, feel and design rather than an unsupported gaming-performance claim.

What are the trade-offs?

  • No hot-swap: The switches cannot simply be pulled and replaced as on a hot-swappable board. PC Gamer specifically flags this limitation, along with a limited switch choice.
  • Basic lighting and controls: Backlighting is white only, with four brightness levels. HotHardware also noted the absence of RGB, status lights, macros, knobs or dials, and software.
  • Wired TKL layout: USB-C is the connection, and there is no number pad. TKL saves desk width compared with a full-size keyboard, but it is a poor fit if you regularly enter numbers on a numpad or need wireless use.
  • Theme limits value for some buyers: The premium is largely tied to the licensed design and included components, rather than a broad feature set. PC Gamer considered the feature package basic for the then-listed price and questioned the premium over a standard ENTR.

What did it cost, and is it still available?

The price depends on when it was reported: Drop announced a $169 preorder price on August 16, 2022; HotHardware said the planned post-launch price would rise to $199; and PC Gamer listed it at $199 in its 2023 review. These are historical figures, not current offers. The cited reports do not establish today’s price or stock for this exact keyboard.

In a February 26, 2026 report, PC Gamer said Drop.com would stop operating as a standalone ecommerce store on March 31, 2026, with Corsair taking over retail operations. The report said existing preorders and warranties would be honored by Corsair and that the LOTR collaboration likely would not return. Drop’s current site presents itself as a hub for collaborations across the CORSAIR family, but neither that page nor the report confirms stock of the Dwarvish ENTR or provides specific instructions for an individual warranty claim. Check current CORSAIR and retailer listings before buying.

Who should buy the Dwarvish ENTR?

It makes the most sense for a Lord of the Rings fan who specifically wants the Doors of Durin theme, likes tactile switches and is happy with a wired, no-numpad layout. The included English training legends make the themed caps practical, while the aluminum case and Holy Panda X switches give it substance beyond decoration.

Choose a different TKL board if you want to customize switches, select from a wide range of switch types, use RGB lighting or software controls, or prioritize features over licensed design. If you are comparing alternatives, evaluate the switch feel and hot-swap support first, then compare lighting/software, desk footprint and current price. The Dwarvish ENTR is a niche collectible-style keyboard with a straightforward feature set, not a flexible enthusiast platform.
