Prioritize water, shade, and safe terrain before you travel; choose solo or PvE if you want to learn without player combat; and build your first base away from open sand with its generator fueled. Those choices make early exploration less punishing and help protect the time you invest in your base.
How do you survive the heat and avoid sandworms?
Plan each trip around water, shade, terrain, and shelter rather than treating the open desert as a safe route. Funcom’s survival overview identifies water or blood as ways to manage thirst, recommends rocky ground to reduce sandworm danger, and warns players to avoid hazards and hide from ravaging sandstorms. - Carry water and replenish it. Keep thirst resources with you before leaving a safe area; blood is another resource the official overview identifies.
- Prefer rocky ground. Avoid casual crossings over exposed open sand. If a crossing is necessary, make it deliberate and have a route and shelter plan.
- Use shade and shelter. Pay attention to the environment and get out of a sandstorm rather than continuing through it.
Can you play Dune: Awakening solo, or avoid PvP?
Yes. In its September 17, 2026 Update 1.5 announcement, Bandai Namco said full single-player play and broad gameplay customization were added. The publisher says the full game, including its features, content, and story, is available across play modes. It also says PvP is optional and the Deep Desert has separate PvE and PvP instances. The September 2026 announcement describes PvP as the higher-risk, higher-reward option.

There is no universal best setting: choose based on whether you want a quieter learning experience, social play, or the added competition of PvP. Update 1.5 also brought additional story content. The game is listed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on the official game page.

Where should you build your first base?
Choose solid ground away from open sand and worm territory. Funcom’s Help Center warns that bases in open sand risk worm attacks. Once you settle, treat power as a protection system: the official base-safety guidance says that when fuel runs out, the generator can stop and the protective shield can go down, exposing structures to environmental damage.
- Keep enough fuel in reserve and check the base’s power and status indicators.
- Protect the sub-fief console and limit base permissions to people you trust.
- Read status notifications and act on them before a power or protection problem becomes damage.
How does the Base Reconstruction Tool work?
The tool can store a base and let you redeploy it, but it is not a risk-free relocation button. According to Funcom’s Base Reconstruction Tool Guide, only the owner can store a base; placement remains subject to land-claim and no-build restrictions; and assembled vehicles are not included. The guide lists a seven-day wait after storing and placing the same base before doing it again.

- Confirm that you are the base owner and understand which base parts and items the tool will store.
- Before committing, check that the intended destination permits placement under land-claim and no-build rules.
- Plan separately for assembled vehicles, which are not part of the stored base.
- Allow for the listed seven-day wait after storing and placing that same base before another reconstruction.
Check current notices before moving a large or important base. Funcom’s known-issues information has recently flagged missing or misplaced pieces potentially related to reconstruction. Public Test Client patch 1.5.15.0, dated September 30, 2026, lists fixes for large-base reconstruction crashes and building-piece snapping in single-player. Those are test-client notes, not confirmation that every fix is live on every platform; see Funcom’s current news and patch notes.

Update 1.5 launched alongside the console release in September 2026. The publisher’s announcement describes full single-player play, gameplay customization, additional story content, optional PvP, and PvE and PvP Deep Desert instances. It also announced base-saving and vehicle-recovery systems, the removal of upkeep taxes, and a reduced death durability penalty. Treat those as details announced at launch rather than a guarantee that no later patch has changed them; consult current release notes for live mechanics.
