The August 2025 Dune: Awakening roadmap is now a historical plan, not a current release schedule. Since then, Funcom has shipped Chapters 2 and 3, The Water Wars DLC, and a major September 2026 update that brought the game to consoles and concluded Book One. The main announced addition still ahead is the free Polar Cap map, which Funcom said remains in active development but has no firm release date.
What the original roadmap covered
Funcom’s August 2025 roadmap outlined near-term free game updates and paid DLC, alongside a monthly development cycle. Most of its named milestones have since arrived, so projected dates from that plan should not be read as upcoming commitments. Funcom’s roadmap announcement provides the original context; the official update archive records what shipped afterward.

Free updates and paid DLC are different parts of the plan
Update 1.4 was a free game update; The Water Wars was paid DLC released alongside it. Funcom described Water Wars as the Season Pass’s final component. The May 2026 announcement also clarified that Update 1.4 was not a Chapter update and did not add story content. Funcom’s Update 1.4 announcement.
Filmic Archive is a separate cosmetic DLC, available across platforms after the September 2026 launch. Bandai Namco listed it at $9.99 when it announced the console release on September 22, 2026; that is the announcement price, not a guarantee of current storefront pricing. Its contents include film-inspired character, gear and base cosmetics, building pieces, decorative items, weapons, and emotes. Bandai Namco’s announcement.

What is still planned: the Polar Cap map
Polar Cap is the major announced future addition in the cited updates. Funcom describes it as a sizeable survival map featuring cold-weather survival mechanics, new locations, resources, loot, crafting, and a standalone storyline. It is planned as a free update. Funcom’s Polar Cap update.
Timing has changed. On May 7, 2026, Funcom said the map had been moved further out in the release plan while the team worked toward its quality target and addressed feedback on game systems and the endgame. The post called it actively in development and gave a “late this year” target, but no firm release date. That target was a dated expectation, not a confirmed launch day. An earlier June 4, 2026 Xbox Wire article had described Polar Cap as a free post-launch map; the later developer update provides the more current timing qualification. What the roadmap does not confirm
Book One concluded with the September 2026 update, but the cited announcements do not establish a firm date for a further major story continuation. Nor do they give an exact Polar Cap release day. Treat any older roadmap dates as superseded by the subsequent release history and delay notice.
