That is a historical, EA-reported result—not a current rate, a claim that 98% of players were honest, or an independently verified finding. EA’s later August 2026 update put Match Infection Rate at 3.24% at month’s end.
What EA’s 98% Battlefield 6 figure means
EA’s launch-week figure corresponds to an average Match Infection Rate (MIR) of approximately 2%. EA describes MIR as the share of matches negatively affected by at least one cheater. In its later definition, the Battlefield Team said the measure includes suspected cheaters reported by players even when EA may not have enough evidence to take enforcement action. EA’s Season 1 anti-cheat update and the Battlefield Team’s August metrics update report these figures.
So “98% cheater free” is shorthand for EA’s estimate that roughly 98% of matches were not impacted by a cheater under its MIR approach. It does not mean 98% of players were non-cheaters, nor does it establish that every remaining match had a confirmed, enforcement-level case.
How the launch-week result compares with EA’s later report
The 98% figure applies to the week after launch, not to the game today. In its update covering August 2026, the Battlefield Team reported that MIR started the month at 4.64%, reached a low of 2.89% on August 25, and ended at 3.24%.

The periods and reporting context differ, so the launch-week number should not be presented as a current rate. The August report is also an EA/Battlefield Team account, not an independent measurement.
Why blocked cheats and disrupted providers do not equal clean matches
EA reported several other anti-cheat figures, but they measure different things from MIR:

- Blocked cheat attempts: EA said more than 367,000 attempts were prevented during launch weekend, with the total later reaching 2.39 million. These are attempts stopped, not matches affected or players identified as cheaters.
- Open beta: EA reported more than 1.2 million blocked attempts. It also said clean matches rose from 93.1% initially to 98% by the final beta day. Those beta results are separate from the post-launch week figure.
- Cheat-provider disruption: In the August 2026 reporting period, the Battlefield Team said 105 of 110 tracked cheat-related programs, hardware solutions, vendors, and resellers had reported failures, detections, downtime, or taken cheats offline—a reported 95.45%. This is a count of tracked entities experiencing disruption, not a direct measure of how many matches or players were affected.
Keeping these measures separate matters: a large number of blocked attempts does not by itself show how many matches were impacted, while provider disruption does not establish a particular prevalence of cheating.
What Secure Boot and other security requirements can—and cannot—do
EA linked Secure Boot to a layered anti-cheat strategy and said TPM 2.0, HVCI, and VBS are among Battlefield 6’s system requirements. During the open beta, EA reported that Secure Boot use increased from 62.5% to 92.5%, and said 1.5% of PC players at that time could not enable it.

EA’s position is that Secure Boot adds a barrier, not a complete solution: its update says the requirement is not a silver bullet and helps make other barriers possible. These requirements and adoption figures do not guarantee a cheat-free match, and the reported figures describe EA’s stated experience rather than an independent security assessment.

The number is useful as EA’s own snapshot of launch-week match impact, but the cited official updates do not provide a complete public methodology, underlying dataset, independent audit, or uncertainty interval that would let readers reproduce or independently verify the 98% result. Treat it as an attributed company statistic, with “approximately” and the launch-week timeframe attached—not as a guarantee about your next match.
