If UFC 5 keeps crashing on Xbox Series X or S, work through updates, USB disconnection, a restart or power cycle, and—if needed—a reinstall. No single fix is confirmed for every crash. First note whether the game closes to the dashboard or the entire Xbox shuts off; the latter needs console-level checks as well as game troubleshooting.
Start with the crash symptom
- UFC 5 closes to the dashboard or freezes: follow the game and storage steps below.
- The Xbox powers off: check airflow and disconnect external devices. If shutdowns continue, contact Xbox Support rather than assuming the game is the only cause.
UFC 5 is listed by the Xbox Store as optimized for Series X|S, with a release date of October 26, 2023. That compatibility listing does not rule out a problem with a particular installation or console. Xbox Store: UFC 5
Try EA’s first-line Xbox troubleshooting steps
- Install available updates. Check for Xbox system software updates and a UFC 5 game update, then try launching the game again. EA’s general crash guidance recommends ensuring the console software is up to date. EA: Troubleshoot PC, PlayStation®, and Xbox crashing or freezing
- Disconnect USB devices and restart. Unplug attached USB devices, then restart the Xbox and test UFC 5 with those devices disconnected.
- Power cycle if restarting is not enough. EA includes a power cycle among its Xbox troubleshooting steps. After completing it, relaunch the game.
- Reinstall UFC 5. If the game is installed on an external drive, test it from the Xbox’s internal storage. EA recommends trying internal storage when a game is on an external drive.
If UFC 5 still crashes
EA also lists clearing the alternate MAC address and deleting local saved data as possible troubleshooting steps. Treat saved-data deletion carefully: understand which local data is affected and any consequences for your setup before proceeding. EA’s general guide provides the steps and advises contacting support if the issue continues.

If the whole Xbox shuts off
Make sure the console’s vents have clear airflow, and disconnect external drives and other USB devices while testing. An EA community representative offered those checks in response to an individual report of a Series X shutting down during UFC 5 Career mode, and recommended Xbox Support if shutdowns continued. If shutdowns continue—especially if they also happen in other games—contact Xbox Support for console-level help. A full shutdown is different from UFC 5 simply closing to the dashboard.

What EA’s past crash patch does—and does not—mean
EA’s December 6, 2023 update announcement said the December 7 patch “Fixed several rare occurring crashes” and addressed issues that occasionally caused menu hangs.
