The list includes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and A Plague Tale: Requiem. The “nightmare” label is the outlet’s judgment, not an announced price change or an official Microsoft confirmation of the full list.
Which games are reportedly leaving Game Pass on October 15?
Tyler Fischer’s October 2, 2026, report at ComicBook.com names these eight titles:
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- A Plague Tale: Requiem
- Crime Scene Cleaner
- Nova Roma
- The Casting of Frank Stone
- Donut County
- Pacific Drive
- Evil West
The report characterizes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as the 2025 Game of the Year winner and a defining RPG, and A Plague Tale: Requiem as a 2022 Game of the Year contender. It also says Crime Scene Cleaner had previously been among the most-played Game Pass games and that Nova Roma would leave before exiting Game Preview. These descriptions are the publication’s, not independent measures of each game’s standing.
Is the October 15 departure list confirmed by Xbox?
The Xbox Wire announcements cited here do not independently confirm the October 15 list. Microsoft’s September 15 lineup post confirms October arrivals and lists games scheduled to leave on September 30. Its September 1 post lists departures scheduled for September 15. Those posts establish the surrounding announcement cadence, not the reported October 15 removals.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why are subscribers calling the update a “nightmare”?
ComicBook.com presents the departures as a particularly painful trade because it considers several outgoing games more notable than the incoming October slate. It quotes subscriber comments including “Good lord, there is no way the quality coming in is gonna be able to replace this”; “These are huge losses!”; and “They should honestly drop the prices for Game Pass again. Selection has been pathetic.” Those are selected comments quoted by the publication, not evidence of a universal subscriber view; the underlying Reddit thread was not separately verified in the cited material.

Whether the change feels costly depends on what you play. Someone waiting to finish one of the reported departures may care more about the date than someone focused on the announced arrivals. Genre preferences, award recognition, and access through a particular plan or platform all affect the comparison; there is no single quality ranking that settles the value question.

What should subscribers do before October 15?
- Check the current listing. Look for the title in the official Game Pass leaving-soon notice or Xbox catalog before relying on the reported date.
- Confirm your access. Check that the game is available on your plan, platform, and region; those details can differ.
- Prioritize what you want to finish. If a title is confirmed as leaving and you are partway through it, plan around its stated removal date rather than the broader “nightmare” framing.
- Reassess after confirmation. Compare the confirmed removals with the announced arrivals you would actually play, rather than treating the number of titles alone as a measure of value.
