Where to find Jori and what defeating him unlocks
Jori waits at the end of Darklight Catacombs in Shadow of the Erdtree. The catacombs are on the route through Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus. The fight is optional for general completion, but Jori blocks access to the Abyssal Woods. Eldenpedia’s Jori entry identifies the progression gate; Push Square’s guide describes the route.

What to watch for in the fight
Golden crescents and ground-targeted circles
Jori attacks from a distance with large and small golden crescents, including volleys of smaller projectiles. Other spells mark the ground with circles that appear beneath you. Keep moving when the circles start forming, and do not pause to cast or heal inside the marked area; the hazards can continue appearing briefly. Close-range attacks, teleports, and summons
At close range, Jori swings his staff or spear. He can also teleport away when pressured and summon inquisitor apparitions; the number and pressure of the adds may increase as his health falls. The apparitions can disappear and return, so clearing them all is rarely a good use of time. They can be dispatched with a hit when one is immediately threatening, but keep Jori as your main target.

Step-by-step strategy
- Choose your approach before entering. A Spirit Ash can distract Jori and some summons, giving you room to attack. Summon quickly: Jori may launch a projectile early. Push Square notes that a Stake of Marika is outside the fog door, which makes retries less costly.
- Close the distance during ranged casts. If you use melee, roll forward or sideways through the crescent attacks and keep moving toward Jori. A Medium Load or lighter helps preserve dodge mobility, as Push Square advises.
- Keep moving when circles appear underfoot. Leave the marked area rather than standing still to finish an attack, cast, or heal. The circles may keep appearing for a short time, so wait for the danger to pass before committing to a stationary action.
- Make Jori the priority target. If lock-on keeps switching to the summoned apparitions, EIP Gaming suggests disabling lock-on. Hit an add only if it is about to interrupt you; otherwise use the opening to damage Jori.
- Use cover if you prefer to stay at range. Roll laterally and use arena cover to avoid crescents, then fire back between spell volleys. Ranged play is less about standing still and trading attacks than managing each opening.
- Use build-specific damage options if they fit. EIP Gaming reports that Jori is weak to fire and that Scarlet Rot can help while you pursue him after teleports. These are optional tools, not required counters or guaranteed shortcuts. Area attacks can also pressure Jori while keeping nearby summons at bay.
Choosing between melee, ranged, and Spirit Ash support

Reward for defeating Jori
Push Square’s guide, dated August 26, 2026, reports a reward of 260,000 runes and the Barbed Staff-Spear. Treat the rune total as a guide-reported reward; the amount received can vary with game conditions or modifiers. Defeating Jori also grants passage toward the Abyssal Woods.
