To finish Iron Fist Alexander’s quest in Elden Ring, free him in Stormhill, meet him again as his story progresses through Radahn’s festival, Liurnia and Mt. Gelmir, then find and defeat him in Crumbling Farum Azula. The final duel rewards the Shard of Alexander and Alexander’s Innards; the Innards can continue Jar-Bairn’s story in Jarburg.
How to start Alexander’s quest in Limgrave
Look for Alexander stuck in the ground in northern Stormhill, near Saintsbridge. Speak with him, then strike him from behind to free him. This first encounter also gives an item and the Triumphant Delight gesture, according to the walkthroughs. If you find him, help him before moving on; guides differ on whether skipping this meeting prevents later progress.
Follow Alexander through the thorough route
The encounters below provide the fuller version of his story. Some intermediate stops may be skipped or advanced by overall story progress, so treat them as route markers rather than assuming every one is a mandatory quest trigger.
Gael Tunnel
Alexander has a further encounter in Gael Tunnel. Speak with him when you find him there before continuing his route.

Mt. Gelmir
Look for Alexander near Seethewater Terminus. Speak with him after the lava encounter to continue his story.
Fire Giant: an optional summon
With sufficient quest progress, Alexander can be summoned for the Fire Giant fight in the Mountaintops. This is a bonus appearance, not a stated requirement for receiving the final talisman.

Where to finish the quest and get the Shard of Alexander
In Crumbling Farum Azula, find Alexander and accept his challenge to a warrior’s duel. Defeat him to receive the Shard of Alexander and Alexander’s Innards. Complete the duel before leaving the area if you are pursuing these rewards.
The Shard of Alexander is a talisman that increases weapon-skill damage. The walkthroughs consulted do not establish a verified official damage percentage, so no exact figure is given here. Alexander’s Innards are a separate key item for Jar-Bairn’s story.
Continue Jar-Bairn’s story in Jarburg
After obtaining Alexander’s Innards, return to Jar-Bairn in Jarburg and progress the dialogue until you can offer the item. This follow-up is optional if your goal is only to obtain the Shard of Alexander.
Thorough route or reward-focused route?
| Route | What to do | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Thorough | Visit Alexander at each listed stop, including Gael Tunnel, Liurnia and Mt. Gelmir, and pursue the optional Fire Giant summon if available. | More of Alexander’s encounters, dialogue and the chance to summon him for the Fire Giant. |
| Reward-focused | Advance his story to the duel in Crumbling Farum Azula and defeat him; visit Jarburg afterward only if you want to continue Jar-Bairn’s story. | The Shard of Alexander and Alexander’s Innards, without treating every earlier stop or the summon as mandatory. |
Do not kill Alexander early if you want the Shard
Killing Alexander before the final duel is associated with the Warrior Jar Shard, an alternative talisman, and forecloses the final quest reward. If you want the Shard of Alexander, keep his story moving and finish the duel in Farum Azula instead.
