Each Nightfarer can use up to three relics in the designated vessels; their effects activate when the Expedition begins and remain equipped when you return. Choose them to suit your character, weapon and damage plan, target Nightlord, and available chalices.
How relics work
Relics are pre-Expedition equipment that can shape a Nightfarer’s build. Bandai Namco’s official gameplay guide says relics have up to three random effects, and each character can equip up to three relics in designated vessels. Effects are not consumed by completing or returning from an Expedition.

Relic effects are not limited to stat bonuses. Depending on the relic, an effect may be broadly useful, specific to a Nightfarer or ability, or change a starting weapon’s elemental skill or add a status ailment.
Relic quality and effect slots
Bandai Namco’s advanced tips guide uses three labels for relics, based on how many effects they have:

Better Expedition performance can yield more relics and improve the chance of receiving a Grand relic. More effects do not automatically make a relic best for your build: compare what each effect actually does and whether it supports your plan.
What relic colors mean
Color chiefly determines which chalices can accept a relic. Bandai Namco also notes that some colors seem to have greater affinity for certain kinds of stat bonuses. Treat that as a tendency rather than a guaranteed color-to-stat mapping, and check compatibility with the vessel you intend to use.
How to choose relics for an Expedition
Build the loadout around the run you intend to play rather than chasing a universal “best” combination. Use this order when comparing relics:
- Start with your Nightfarer. Look for effects that name the character or interact with that character’s skill or art.
- Check your weapon and damage plan. Consider whether an effect modifies a starting weapon’s elemental skill or adds an element or status ailment that fits the run.
- Account for the target Nightlord. Bandai Namco advises considering the Nightlord’s weakness when choosing effects. Use that information alongside your character and weapon plan.
- Fit relics to your chalices. Confirm each relic’s color is compatible with the vessel you want to fill.
- Compare the effects, not just the tier. A Delicate relic with a useful effect may fit better than a Grand relic whose three effects do little for your intended build.
For a co-op run, also consider what the party needs from your character. The available guidance supports planning around character synergy and the Nightlord’s weakness, but it does not establish a universal role assignment or a single best relic setup.

How to get more relics
A first clear of a new Expedition awards a relic unique to the defeated Nightlord avatar. Later clears provide generic random relics of varying quality. Nightfarer-specific relics can also be unlocked through Journal Remembrances. The Bandai Namco official starter guide describes these acquisition routes.
Why effect advice can become outdated
Relic balance can change between game versions, so treat any exact ranking or numerical value as version-specific and check the current in-game description and patch notes before relying on it. For example, Bandai Namco’s version 1.03.2 notes increased some named effects, including “HP Recovery From Successful Guarding” and “Draw enemy attention while guarding”; decreased “Successive Attacks Boost Attack Power” and bow attack effects; and changed Wylder’s “Art activation spreads fire in area” effect so that it also increases the art gauge. These are historical examples from version 1.03.2, not a claim about the current balance.
Is this a complete list of every relic effect?
No. A reliable, current, item-by-item catalogue of every effect, value, stacking rule, and interaction is not established here. The official guides confirm the system and describe effect categories, while the official patch notes document selected balance changes. Use the effect text shown in your current game for a specific relic, and avoid treating partial examples or old rankings as a complete live database.
