The publisher’s announced Tarnished Pack release times were midnight local time on August 28 for PlayStation and Xbox, and 7:00 JST / 00:00 CEST / 15:00 PDT on August 28 for Steam. These are the times in the patch notes, not a statement about current store availability.
What did Elden Ring update 1.17 add?
New classes, equipment and Torrent options
The update’s additions include the Idus Knight and Heavy Knight starting classes, weapons available from merchants or found in the world, and three appearance options for Torrent. The patch notes list these additions alongside the Tarnished Pack support.

NPC invasions and an area-specific restriction
Patch 1.17 adds NPC invasion events in Caelid and Leyndell. The Leyndell event is unavailable once the area has become Leyndell, Ashen Capital, so players who want to encounter it should account for that progression point.
Balance changes and item replacements
The notes enumerate a broad set of specific balance adjustments rather than a blanket change to every weapon. They include increased guard boost and reduced weight for listed shields, and changes to selected weapon attacks and scaling. Some items found in the Realm of Shadow are replaced with higher-tier versions; items already found are not changed. Is the Tarnished Pack the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion?
No. The Tarnished Pack is additional content associated with the 2026 update. It includes two starting classes, new armor and Torrent appearance customization usable in both the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, according to Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring product page.
Shadow of the Erdtree is the separate expansion released worldwide on June 21, 2024. It adds the Land of Shadow, a new story chapter, weapons, equipment, abilities, enemies and boss encounters. It requires the Elden Ring base game. FromSoftware’s announcement and Bandai Namco’s launch notice document its release and contents.

Bandai Namco says the Tarnished Edition is available for Nintendo Switch 2 and bundles the original game with Shadow of the Erdtree; the new classes, gear and Torrent skins are also available as the Tarnished Pack on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. The publisher also lists a Deluxe Edition that adds digital artbooks and soundtracks.
