Promised Consort Radahn is the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree, fought at Enir-Ilim. The most reliable plan is to maximize Scadutree Blessing and Revered Spirit Ash upgrades, bring a build that can trigger Bleed or Frostbite or deal strong stance damage, and reserve your best movement for phase two. A high-guard greatshield and guard counters can simplify phase one; once Miquella appears, Holy mitigation and disciplined dodging matter more than stationary blocking.
What changes between Radahn’s two phases?
Phase one: physical and gravity pressure
Radahn opens aggressively with gravity attacks and rapid melee strings. His combinations are designed to catch attacks made in the middle of the sequence, so do not try to trade after every swing. Block or roll according to your build, keep your stamina under control, and punish the recovery at the end of a string.
A high-guard greatshield is particularly effective here. Guard counters can build stance damage and eventually create a riposte opportunity, but only if you preserve enough stamina to avoid being left helpless after a blocked hit.
Phase two: Miquella, Holy damage and delayed attacks
At the transition, Miquella appears on Radahn and adds Holy effects, clone attacks, beams, larger area attacks and altered combo timings. Phase two also contains a lethal grab, so avoiding that tell takes priority over squeezing in another hit.

- World Exploration in the Lands Between – Elden Ring features vast fantastical landscapes and shadowy, complex dungeons that are connected seamlessly. Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players, and fully immerse yourself in the grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiraling mountains, foreboding castles and other sites of grandeur on a scale never seen before in a FromSoftware title
- Genre-Defining Gameplay – Create your character in FromSoftware’s refined action-RPG and define your playstyle by experimenting with a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities, and skills found throughout the world. Charge into battle, pick off enemies one-by-one using stealth, or even call upon allies for aid. Many options are at your disposal as you decide how to approach exploration and combat
Shields are less dependable in this phase because elemental damage can pass through many guarding setups. Keep moving, use Holy mitigation, and treat every opening as a brief chance rather than an invitation to remain beside the boss.
Preparation checklist
Raise your blessings first
- Increase Scadutree Blessing as far as practical before attempting the fight.
- Upgrade Revered Spirit Ashes if you plan to use a Spirit Ash.
- A current fan-maintained reference suggests Blessing 18–20 and character level 150 or higher, but those figures are recommendations rather than universal requirements. The reference is unofficial, and values can change after balance updates.
Build for survival and one clear damage plan
- Use enough Vigor and physical and Holy mitigation to survive mistakes; the exact breakpoints depend on your build and the active patch.
- Choose a practiced damage route: Bleed, Cold, repeated stance damage, or another setup you can apply consistently.
- Radahn is reported to be susceptible to Scarlet Rot, Frostbite and Bleed. Status procs take meaningful chunks of health, while stance damage can lead to a critical hit.
- If you use a shield in phase one, favor high guard boost and manage stamina rather than holding block indefinitely.
Choose your attention-control plan
Decide before entering whether you will fight alone, summon quest NPCs, use Mimic Tear, or combine them. Thiollier and Ansbach are quest-dependent; Mimic Tear is a separate Spirit Ash option. Summons increase Radahn’s health, but the extra targets can create the attack windows needed to heal, apply status or recover stamina.
| Approach | What it does well | Main cost |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Lower boss health and a predictable target | You must handle every combo and create every opening yourself |
| Thiollier and/or Ansbach | Divides Radahn’s attention and creates recovery windows | Each available summon increases boss health; access depends on quest progress |
| Mimic Tear | Adds sustained pressure and another target | Spirit Ash use raises boss health and its behavior can be inconsistent |
| NPCs plus Mimic Tear | Can produce a four-on-one distraction pattern | Highest added boss health and more visual clutter |
How to beat phase one
Read the end of each string
Radahn’s safest punish window is usually after a sequence finishes, not after its first hit. Roll through or block the incoming attacks, then answer with one or two controlled attacks. Greedy combos are often interrupted by the next gravity or sword swing.
Use guard counters without emptying stamina
A greatshield approach turns many physical attacks into guard-counter opportunities. Watch the stamina bar while blocking: a successful guard is not useful if the next hit leaves you unable to roll. Release block when safe, regain stamina, and counter only when Radahn’s animation has actually ended.

Proc status and stance damage deliberately
Bleed and Frostbite can remove substantial portions of the health bar. Stance pressure is another reliable route: stay close enough to land repeated heavy or otherwise high-stagger attacks, then take the riposte when Radahn is broken. Do not abandon defense simply to force the next proc.
How to survive the phase transition
The transition offers a short damage opportunity, but phase two begins immediately with a new threat. Take the free hits only while Radahn is committed to the animation. Heal, rebuff or change equipment only when the animation gives you enough space; rushing those actions as the second phase starts is a common way to lose the attempt.
How to dodge phase two
Converging Holy beams
When the beam attack begins, follow its tell and sprint sideways continuously. Do not stop to attack during the convergence, and do not rely on a short backstep to clear the line. Sustained lateral movement is the reliable answer.
Clone attacks
For the clone sequence, roll through the attacks rather than retreating in a straight line. The visual copies are meant to make the timing feel longer than it is; focus on the incoming hit rhythm and keep your roll direction passing through the attack.

Delayed combo endings
Some extended strings now end later than the first part suggests. Delay the final roll instead of chaining evasions automatically. Rolling early can leave you recovering when the real finishing hit arrives.
Large Holy area attacks
Sprint out of broad Holy effects as soon as the area appears. Reposition first, then heal or punish from the edge. Phase two rewards distance traveled more than a last-second shield hold.
The grab
Treat the grab animation as a priority avoidance cue. Do not attempt a trade or a late attack when Radahn begins the approach; create space and preserve your escape route.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you summon Thiollier, Ansbach and Mimic Tear?
Summoning is a trade-off, not a difficulty bypass. Thiollier and Ansbach can be available through their questlines, but the relevant steps are missable before progressing past the Sealing Tree and Leda sequence. Their signs must be available before you enter the fight. Mimic Tear can be used independently as your Spirit Ash choice.

Using both NPCs and Mimic Tear can keep Radahn looking away from you long enough to apply Bleed or Frost, heal, or land stance damage. The price is a larger health pool, so a summon-heavy attempt can become a war of attrition if your damage is low. Solo attempts reduce that health increase but demand cleaner responses to every phase-two pattern.
What Patch 1.14 changed
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.14 notes specifically list adjustments to the Shadow of the Erdtree final boss. The update changed the opening action pattern, adjusted several attacks, lowered damage on some attacks, lowered stamina damage on some attacks, shortened the range of some non-weapon attacks, and improved the visibility of attack effects.
Consequently, older videos can show a different opening and different punish timings. Use the current animation tells rather than copying an opening sequence from an earlier patch.
Which Elden Ring edition includes the DLC?
If you do not own the base game, the official ELDEN RING SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE EDITION package includes the base game and the DLC code on the listed PS4/PS5 release; equivalent platform editions should be checked for their own contents. The standalone Shadow of the Erdtree expansion requires the base game.
