Tombsward Catacombs is on the northern slopes of the Weeping Peninsula, near the Minor Erdtree. From the Church of Pilgrimage, head south toward the stone archway and look for the entrance tucked into the cliffside. Inside, find the corridor lever to open the boss door; defeating Cemetery Shade awards Lhutel the Headless Spirit Ashes and 2,200 Runes.
Where to find Tombsward Catacombs
Travel south from the Church of Pilgrimage on the Weeping Peninsula, heading toward the Minor Erdtree. Look along the higher northern slope for a stone archway and rock formation concealing the entrance. It is easy to pass if you search only the lower ground near Tombsward Ruins. How to get through the catacombs
Activate the Site of Grace and choose whether to open the side room
Activate the Site of Grace just inside the entrance. A Stonesword Key opens an optional room containing two skeletons and Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [9], which enables crafting Rancor Pots. The key is not needed to reach the main route or boss.
Cross the main chamber and fire corridor
In the large chamber, watch for skeletons attacking with arrows and firebombs. Grave Glovewort pickups are scattered along the route, and the room’s multiple levels can make it easy to miss a passage. In the next section, a fire-spewing pillar threatens the corridor. Use its alcove for cover, then strike the pillar to lower it. Depending on its position, it can also serve as a platform or be used to burn enemies.

Reach the lever and open the boss door
The boss door begins sealed. Continue along the lower route, passing the room with the Prattling Pate (Thank You) item. Taking the item triggers four skeletons, so be ready for an ambush. The lever is at the end of the corridor; pull it to open the boss door. If you lowered the fire pillar earlier, it will no longer be available as a platform or a way to burn enemies.
How to beat Cemetery Shade
Cemetery Shade moves quickly, teleports, and attacks with fast blade combinations. Its green orb can immobilize you, so avoid staying in its line of attack. The walkthrough suggests using pillars for cover or rolling sideways to evade the orb. Spirit Ashes can draw the Shade’s attention and create openings to attack. The source also recommends heavy or repeated attacks as a way to stagger it; treat these as tactical suggestions, not guaranteed results.

- Prioritize survival: Keep moving and avoid committing to long attack sequences while the Shade is active.
- Use cover: Pillars can help block the green orb if evasion is difficult.
- Create an opening: Summoned Spirit Ashes can distract the boss, while sustained or heavy attacks may interrupt it.
