EmuDeck 2.7 Adds AutoMap for Four Players; Public 2.7.1 Has No Release Notes

EmuDeck 2.7 adds AutoMap, a SteamOS/Linux feature that assigns controllers for Dolphin, Cemu and Ryujinx—including automatic setup for up to four players. The public 2.7.1 release followed on September 29, 2026, but its GitHub release page had no notes; the detailed 2.7.0 changelog was published separately for early access on September 14.

What EmuDeck 2.7 adds

AutoMap is intended for emulators that do not detect controllers automatically. EmuDeck’s official 2026 megathread says the feature can configure controls for up to four players and names Steam Controller, 8BitDo, Xbox and DualSense controllers, as well as controllers on other Linux handhelds.

Other changes in the announcement include RetroAchievements API updates, including Dolphin setup; additional resolution selectors; fixes for embedded videos; and an import/export tool for moving an EmuDeck installation between Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Linux and Windows. Steam Machine improvements add default 1080p or 4K setup in selected emulators. Ryujinx setup now installs SteamDeckGyroDSU automatically, but the announcement limits that change to Steam Deck and says Steam Controller support on Steam Machine is still being investigated.

How do I get four controllers working in EmuDeck?

AutoMap is listed for SteamOS/Linux, and its documented targets are Dolphin, Cemu and Ryujinx. It assigns controllers when one of those emulators starts; it does not perform the assignment during EmuDeck installation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Enable AutoMap in EmuDeck for the emulator you intend to use. The implementation identifies the settings as autoMapDolphin, autoMapCemu and autoMapSwitch; the last setting applies to Ryujinx. The release materials do not specify a menu path, so use the AutoMap control in the EmuDeck version you have rather than relying on an assumed sequence of menus.
  2. Connect the controllers you want to use and confirm that SteamOS/Linux recognizes them. AutoMap enumerates available controller pads when the emulator starts, so connect them before launching the game session.
  3. Start the affected emulator. EmuDeck reads the connected pads and updates device assignments at launch. The four-player ceiling is built into the implementation.

If Steam Input is not involved, the implementation sorts recognized built-in handheld controllers after external pads. That lets an external controller take player one ahead of a handheld’s own controls. The described device matching covers Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, AYANEO and OneXPlayer hardware. Dolphin also has its SIDevice ports and Wiimote sources rewritten to reflect the detected pad count.

AutoMap has a control trade-off: launching an affected emulator with it enabled displays, “AutoMap is enabled. You won’t be able to change controller settings in this emulator.” Turn AutoMap off if you need to change controller assignments inside the emulator.

Does EmuDeck AutoMap work with 8BitDo, Xbox, or DualSense controllers?

EmuDeck’s official megathread explicitly names all three controller families as supported external hardware. That is a feature-level statement, not a guarantee that every model, connection method or game will behave identically. AutoMap depends on the controller being detected by the operating system and the target emulator being one of the supported AutoMap targets.

Controller What EmuDeck names What to check
8BitDo Named as supported external hardware Confirm that the particular controller is recognized by SteamOS/Linux and appears as a pad when the emulator starts.
Xbox Xbox controllers are named The announcement does not distinguish models or wired and wireless behavior; check recognition and player order in your setup.
DualSense Named as supported external hardware The announcement does not specify connection mode or model-level compatibility; verify detection before launching.
Steam Controller Named for SteamOS/Linux support Steam Machine support is not established: EmuDeck says it is still investigating Steam Controller support there.
Other handheld controllers Controllers attached to other Linux handhelds are included Built-in controller matching is described for Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, AYANEO and OneXPlayer. External-pad ordering is described when Steam Input is not involved.

The release materials provide no latency measurements, setup-success rates or reliability statistics for wired, Bluetooth or USB connections. They also do not establish how Steam Input changes assignments across every device and emulator. Those points should be checked on the specific hardware rather than inferred from the controller names in the announcement.

Where is the EmuDeck 2.7 changelog?

The detailed 2.7.0 notes appeared in the EmuDeck early-access GitHub repository on September 14, 2026; the official GitHub releases page records that version as “2.7 released for EA.” Digital Citizen reported that public version 2.7.1 was pushed on September 29, 2026 without attached release notes, and that its GitHub release body was empty. In other words, the detailed 2.7.0 changelog was available through the early-access release, while the later public 2.7.1 entry did not provide its own notes.

The public 2.7.1 package is reported as Linux AppImages for x86_64 and arm64, plus a Windows installer. That package availability does not mean AutoMap works on Windows: the feature is listed for SteamOS/Linux and described as unavailable on Windows.

What EmuDeck does—and does not—include

EmuDeck is a configuration layer that installs and configures emulator software; it is not itself an emulator. The release reporting says it does not include ROMs, BIOS files or other copyrighted game files.
