Encore is Destiny 2’s Exotic mission that rewards Choir of One, a craftable Void Auto Rifle using Special ammo. You can enter with up to three players, although access may require the Episode: Echoes content that introduced the mission. This walkthrough covers the route, Connection/Partition/Access mechanics, secret chests, and the documented Subsistence catalyst path.
How to unlock Encore and Choir of One
Bungie lists Encore among Destiny 2’s available Exotic missions. Exotic missions are more mechanically involved than standard activities, and access can depend on owning or unlocking the related content. Encore launched in Episode: Echoes Act III and sends you into Nessus’s terraformed core to stop a Vex threat.

Complete the mission once to receive Choir of One. Bungie describes it as a craftable Exotic Void Auto Rifle and the first Auto Rifle in Destiny 2 to use Special ammo. Its projectiles are Void darts, and the weapon is particularly effective at close range.
Encore fireteam and difficulty choices

Encore mechanics: Connection, Partition and Access
Encore’s Vex spaces are opened and reshaped with three modules. Depositing a module in the matching dish enables the associated interaction.

- Partition: Removes sections of wall so you can pass through newly opened gaps.
- Access: Opens progression routes and interacts with later Vex structures.
Look for module deposits and Vex portals while moving through the mission. Traversal and combat are interleaved, so clear enemies before committing to a long jump or puzzle sequence. Some encounters have been reported to bug, including occasions when a boss weak point fails to spawn; if an objective does not appear, check that every nearby enemy and interaction has been completed before restarting.
Encore opening route walkthrough
Reach the first interior section
- At the start, climb the angled wall.
- Enter the opening in the large sphere.
- Cross the gap and follow the narrow ledge.
- Use the hallway on the right to continue.
- Use the small brick elevators to gain height.
- In the chasm, pass through the higher central slit.
- Ride the piston, then drop through the purple opening.
Take your time on the platforming. Falling resets your position and can leave you redoing the approach while enemies remain active.
Activate the first Connection puzzle
The first major puzzle room contains three pillars. Find the Connection module and place it in the appropriate dish. Connection builds the room’s segments and lowers barriers, allowing you to reach the deposit points.
- Locate the Connection module in the room.
- Carry it to its matching dish and deposit it.
- Use the newly formed segments to reach the first pillar.
- Activate the pillar, then follow the opened route to the next deposit point.
- Repeat the deposit-and-pillar process until all three pillars around the room are active.
- Continue through the opened Vex route and use portals as they become available.
Partition is used when a wall section blocks the next path: deposit it, then pass through the removed section. Access modules perform the corresponding opening interaction in later areas. The mission alternates these actions with combat encounters, so watch for a newly exposed route after each activation.

Where the Encore secret chests are
Early cube-sequence chest
The first described secret chest appears after the early platforming section. You must destroy eight cubes in the correct order. Shoot the cube with the smaller cube beneath it, then repeat the same rule until all eight cubes are destroyed. If you shoot a cube out of sequence, inspect the remaining stack and identify the next cube with the smaller cube below it rather than firing randomly.
Planetary Piston chest
A second chest near the first Planetary Piston uses a timed Vex-plate puzzle. Stand on and activate the plates according to the sequence presented in the room, then reach the chest before the timing window closes. This chest awards Command Frame II.
Additional puzzles and collectibles become available as you progress through Encore and its related objectives. Revisit the mission after earning Choir of One rather than treating the first clear as the end of the activity.
How to get the Choir of One catalysts
Choir of One has three Exotic catalysts overall. The documented route below is for the Subsistence catalyst; a complete Onslaught route was not established in the available published procedure, which still marked it as pending.

1. Complete Specimen ID: NES007
Finish the Specimen ID: NES007 objective first. This unlocks access to a Hub area and causes special puzzles to appear in Encore: Overture.
2. Pick up //Choir: Eternal from Banshee-44
Visit Banshee-44 in the Tower and collect the //Choir: Eternal quest step. Do this before attempting the Hub chest so the objective can track the required activity.
3. Solve the Hub orb-and-portal puzzle
Enter the Hub and complete its orb-and-portal puzzle. Once the sequence is solved, open the secret chest there. This chest is part of the Subsistence catalyst progression.
4. Finish Expert Encore: Overture
Complete Encore: Overture on Expert difficulty after opening the Hub chest. The Expert clear is the final documented requirement for the Subsistence catalyst quest path.

What to do after the first Choir of One clear
Choir of One is craftable, and Bungie’s design is to unlock additional perks and catalysts by returning to Encore and exploring deeper into Nessus’s core. Replays are therefore useful for more than triumph score: they can reveal new secret puzzles, collectibles, weapon upgrades and catalyst objectives.
- Re-run Encore to search for newly available secret chests.
- Check Hub and mission puzzles after completing specimen objectives.
- Shape Choir of One at the Enclave as patterns and perks become available.
- Use normal difficulty to learn routes, then switch to Expert when a quest explicitly requires it.
- Track Triumph and collectible progress between runs so you know which areas still need investigation.
Encore troubleshooting
A route or portal is not open
Confirm that the correct module was deposited in its dish and that every nearby pillar has been activated. Connection builds routes, Partition removes wall sections, and Access handles later openings; carrying the wrong module will not advance the room.
A boss weak point does not appear
Clear the surrounding encounter and verify that all required interactions were completed. The mission has had reports of encounters in which a weak point fails to spawn. If the arena remains locked with no objective, a restart may be necessary.
The catalyst step is not progressing
Verify that Specimen ID: NES007 is complete, that //Choir: Eternal was collected from Banshee-44, and that the Hub chest was opened before the Expert Encore: Overture completion. The documented Subsistence sequence depends on that order.
