What ep0nxfm1.dll is
Recommended Free Tools
ep0nxfm1.dll is an Epson printer-driver component, not a Windows system file, Microsoft runtime, game library, or general-purpose DLL. If Windows reports that ep0nxfm1.dll is missing or cannot load, the most likely problem is an incomplete, damaged, outdated, or mismatched Epson printer installation.
The strongest package evidence places EP0NXFM1.DLL inside the Epson prnepcl2.inf driver package, under an x86 directory alongside Epson ESC/P printer-driver files. Public indexes identify it as a 32-bit file associated with SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION.
| Detail | Reported information |
|---|---|
| Filename | EP0NXFM1.DLL |
| Likely owner | Epson printer-driver package |
| Likely package | prnepcl2.inf |
| Architecture | 32-bit |
| Reported version | 0.4.1.0 |
| Reported size | Approximately 0.45 MB |
| Windows component | No evidence that it is part of Windows |
| Exact Epson model | Cannot be identified from the filename alone |
The exact printer model cannot be confirmed from this DLL by itself. Do not assume that every Epson printer uses it, and do not treat a third-party file listing as an Epson-issued manifest.
First, identify what is requesting the file
The message may appear when Windows starts, when you print, or when an Epson utility opens. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that ep0nxfm1.dll exists but one of its dependent files is missing.

Before changing anything, note:
- The exact program or window showing the error
- Whether the error appears during startup or only during printing
- Whether an Epson printer is still installed
- Whether the problem began after an Epson driver install, removal, Windows update, printer migration, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, or system restore
- The full path shown if the message provides one
If the requesting program is an Epson printer utility or the error appears when printing, repair the Epson driver first. If no Epson printer remains on the computer and the message appears at every startup, you may be dealing with an orphaned Epson utility or startup entry rather than a missing file that any current application needs.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Epson printer package
This is the safest and most likely repair. Do not begin by downloading ep0nxfm1.dll separately.
Remove the current printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices in Windows 11, or Devices in Windows 10.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Epson printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
If the printer is connected by USB, disconnect it before restarting. If it is a network printer, temporarily leave it disconnected or powered off while removing the old installation.
Install the official Epson driver
- Identify the exact printer model from the label on the printer or its original documentation.
- Open Epson’s official Support site.
- Search for that model.
- Open the model’s Downloads section.
- Select your installed Windows version.
- Download the current printer driver or Epson software package.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Reconnect or power on the printer only when the installer asks you to.
- Print a Windows test page.
To run the installer as administrator, right-click it, choose Show more options if necessary, select Run as administrator, and approve the permission prompt.
A successful repair normally has three signs: the Epson printer appears again under Printers & scanners, the Epson utility opens without the DLL message, and a test page prints. If the same error returns immediately, the old driver package may still be stored in Windows and must be removed more completely.
When driver hunting involves several Epson packages and uncertain architecture choices, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its repair and driver installation features require the full version. For this file, reinstalling the exact Epson package for your printer remains the definitive fix.
Fix 2: Remove the old Epson driver from Print Server Properties
Removing a printer queue does not always remove its driver package. Windows may retain the Epson package in the Driver Store, allowing a damaged or obsolete component to be called again.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
text
printui.exe /s /t2
- Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Look for an Epson driver related to the removed printer.
- Select it and choose Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that choice.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct Epson package again.
Do not remove an Epson driver if another Epson printer queue still uses it. If Windows refuses to remove the package, open Printers & scanners, delete every queue using that driver, restart the Print Spooler service, and try again.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo restart the spooler:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and choose Restart.
If the error began after a Windows upgrade or after replacing an Epson printer, this cleanup step is especially relevant.
Fix 3: Find and remove the Driver Store package with PnPUtil
Use this procedure only when you are comfortable identifying the correct Epson package. Removing the wrong driver can disable another printer.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
text
pnputil /enum-drivers
- Review the output for an Epson package whose original INF is
prnepcl2.inf. - Note its published name, which will look similar to
oem42.inf. - Confirm that no remaining printer queue uses that package.
- Remove the package:
text
pnputil /delete-driver oem42.inf /uninstall
Replace oem42.inf with the exact published name shown on your computer. Do not copy the example name literally.

Use /force only when necessary and only after confirming the package. Microsoft documents the command syntax and removal behavior in its PnPUtil documentation.
If PnPUtil reports that the package is in use, remove the associated printer queue first. If it reports that the package cannot be found, the error may be coming from a different Epson package, an orphaned startup item, or a missing dependency.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a printer-driver component after an update or installation.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an Epson-related detection or a quarantined
EP0NXFM1.DLL. - Check the file path and detection details.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these are true:
- It came from an Epson installation
- The path belongs to the Windows Driver Store or the Epson package
- You recognize the printer and driver
- A current security scan finds no additional problem
If the file came from a Downloads folder, temporary directory, user profile, or unrelated application folder, do not restore it blindly. Remove the suspicious copy and reinstall the driver from Epson instead. Microsoft explains how to review these events in its guide to Protection History.
Fix 5: Check for an architecture mismatch
ep0nxfm1.dll is reported as a 32-bit component. That does not automatically make it incompatible with 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit Windows installation can contain 32-bit printer-driver components.
The important match is:
- The Epson printer model
- The Windows edition and version
- The driver package supplied for that combination
- The printer subsystem architecture supported by the package
Do not download a 64-bit replacement simply because Windows is 64-bit, and do not replace the file with a copy from another Epson model. Install the package selected for your printer on Epson’s support site.
If an old installer reports that it is incompatible with Windows, check whether Epson provides a newer package. If no compatible package exists, remove the stale driver and use Windows’ supported printer setup only if it correctly identifies and operates the printer.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
SFC and DISM are secondary repairs here. ep0nxfm1.dll is not established as a protected Windows system file, so these commands will not reliably replace a missing Epson driver component. They are useful when Windows servicing, the component store, or system files were damaged during an update or rollback.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run DISM first:
text
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
text
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it repaired files or found no integrity violations. If SFC reports that it could not repair everything, restart and run it again after DISM completes. If the Epson error remains but Windows reports that system files are healthy, return to Epson driver removal and reinstallation rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.
When manually working through DISM and SFC leaves you guessing about which Windows components changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show detected problems; its repair functions require the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the Epson package when that package is the actual cause.
Microsoft’s repair sequence is described in its System File Checker guidance.

Fix 7: Remove an orphaned Epson startup component
If the error appears during every startup but no Epson printer is installed, replacing the DLL is usually the wrong objective.
First remove unused Epson software:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for Epson software.
- Remove utilities belonging to printers you no longer use.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable an Epson entry that belongs to a removed printer.
- Restart and confirm whether the message disappears.
If the error is gone, the startup entry was stale. If it returns, identify the exact executable or service generating it before removing more entries.

Do not copy the DLL into System32
The normal location for this file is inside the Epson printer-driver package and Windows Driver Store. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 or an application folder can create the wrong architecture, break servicing, and leave the damaged driver package untouched.
Do not use random DLL download sites
A standalone download may contain malware, the wrong build, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the remaining Epson package. Public indexes also show more than one size and hash under the same displayed version, so a filename and version number are not enough to validate a replacement.
Do not run regsvr32 routinely
Printer-driver DLLs are not normally self-registering COM or ActiveX libraries. Running:

- ZERO CARTRIDGE WASTE — By using an Epson EcoTank printer you can help reduce the amount of cartridge waste ending up in landfills; Cartridge-free printer utilizes ink bottles for more convenience and less waste
regsvr32 ep0nxfm1.dll
will not rebuild the Epson driver package and may produce an entry-point or registration error. Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor explicitly documents that a particular DLL exports DllRegisterServer. There is no established reason to use it for this Epson driver component.
Do not remove every Epson driver blindly
If another Epson printer still works, deleting its shared package can break that queue. Identify the printer queue and oem#.inf package first.

If the file or package is recreated after every reboot, Windows Update, an Epson utility, or a connected printer may be reinstalling it. Disconnect the printer temporarily, remove the obsolete queue and driver package, restart, and install only the current Epson package you need.
FAQ
Is ep0nxfm1.dll a Windows file?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with an Epson printer-driver package, particularly the prnepcl2.inf package.
Which Epson printer uses it?
The filename alone does not identify one exact printer model. Identify the owning package and printer queue on the affected computer.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Can I download ep0nxfm1.dll separately?
You should not. Reinstall the correct Epson driver from Epson’s official support site so that the DLL and its dependencies come from one verified package.
Why does Windows say “the specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
The message can refer to a missing dependency rather than the named DLL. A damaged or incomplete Epson package can therefore produce the same message even when a copy of EP0NXFM1.DLL is present.
Will SFC fix it?
Only if Windows system components or servicing infrastructure are also damaged. SFC is not the primary repair for a missing third-party Epson driver file.
Does a 64-bit Windows PC need a 64-bit copy?
Not necessarily. This component is reported as 32-bit, and 64-bit Windows can use 32-bit printer-driver components. Install the Epson package intended for your exact printer and Windows version.
What if I no longer own the Epson printer?
Remove the obsolete Epson printer queue, uninstall unused Epson software, remove the unused driver package through Print Server Properties or PnPUtil, and restart. If the startup message remains, identify and disable the stale startup component rather than adding the DLL back.
