Red Dead Redemption 2 was not confirmed as an Epic Games Store holiday giveaway. The claim came from a leaked list of supposed December 2025 freebies, and the outlet that reported it later said the list was wrong. Epic’s official announcements confirmed other holiday offers, not RDR2. For any current giveaway, check Epic’s live Free Games page rather than relying on the old rumor.
Where the Red Dead Redemption 2 rumor came from
On December 18, 2025, TechSpot reported a purported schedule of daily Epic Games Store giveaways running from December 18 to 31. The circulated list named Red Dead Redemption 2 as the finale, but the article itself cautioned that the leak’s reliability was uncertain. TechSpot’s article and updates later changed the picture: its December 19 update said the third giveaway was Eternights, which was absent from the list, and its December 22 update described the circulated lineup as completely wrong. A December 24 update identified The Callisto Protocol as that day’s giveaway.

That makes the RDR2 claim a disproven rumor, not evidence that Epic planned to give the game away. The later corrections matter more than the headline or the leaked list shared before them.
What Epic officially confirmed for the 2025 Holiday Sale
Epic’s official 2025 Holiday Sale guide said the sale ran from December 11, 2025, through January 8, 2026, and confirmed Hogwarts Legacy was free through December 18 at 11 a.m. ET. That confirms the first giveaway discussed in the rumor story; it does not confirm Red Dead Redemption 2 as a later free game.

How to check Epic’s current free games
Epic’s Free Games page currently describes a weekly giveaway, with new PC and mobile offers arriving every Thursday. That is the store’s stated cadence, not a promise that any particular game—including RDR2—will be offered. Epic Support also points users to the official promotions page for offers.

Does the 2026 holiday schedule confirm an RDR2 giveaway?
No. An Epic Games Store Promotions forum post dated August 24, 2026 lists a 2026 Holiday Sale running December 10, 2026, through January 7, 2027. The published sale schedule gives campaign dates, but names no free games. It therefore does not establish a 2026 holiday giveaway lineup or any plan to offer Red Dead Redemption 2.

Yes, the game has a PC edition available for purchase through the Epic Games Store, among other retailers. Take-Two/Rockstar’s November 5, 2019 release also identifies the original console release as being for PS4 and Xbox One. That establishes platform-specific purchase options, not a future free offer; check the current product listing for availability and compatibility.
