Escape from Ever After is a single-player adventure RPG about storybook characters resisting a real-world corporation that exploits their worlds. Humor, writing and characters
Review excerpts point to a strong response to the game’s writing, humor and character appeal. Movies Games and Tech called it “a fantastic, satirical turn-based RPG that was inspired by Paper Mario,” while TheXboxHub described it as “a very accomplished game that does a lot of things right.” These are individual publication assessments, not claims of universal agreement. Music and a varied RPG mix
The soundtrack is another favorable point in the review excerpts. Controls and platforming
One more critical review cites mushy controls, and an Xbox Series X review cautions that platforming can take time to get used to. That matters because exploration and platforming are part of the core mix: players expecting a purely menu-driven RPG may find the physical navigation less forgiving than the battles. The same more critical review points to difficulty spikes and frustrating puzzles. The available reviews do not establish a single difficulty experience for all players, so expect occasional bumps rather than a uniformly smooth progression.

Is Escape from Ever After worth playing?
The review sample makes it a promising choice for players who want a humorous, story-led RPG with turn-based combat, timed inputs and a blend of puzzles and platforming. Its strongest apparent draw is personality: critics highlight the writing, humor, characters and music alongside the Paper Mario-style structure. The main reservation is execution in the platforming and puzzle sections, where controls or difficulty can interrupt the flow.
In short, the positive reception is well supported by the critic aggregate, but the score alone will not predict whether the platforming or puzzle challenges suit you. If those elements are part of what you enjoy in an adventure RPG, the mix looks like a good fit; if you prefer forgiving movement and consistently straightforward puzzles, the cited criticisms are worth weighing.
