The strongest choices depend on your ship class, build and priorities, so this is a practical editorial shortlist—not a definitive tier list. It separates companion perks, which offer exploration or economy utility, from ship perks, whose value depends on class mechanics.
How to use this ranking
Companion perks can benefit a broad range of pilots, while ship perks are designed around particular class mechanics. Because the available evidence does not establish comparable current effects for ten specific perks, this list ranks the two confirmed companion perks first and then gives eight decision-making slots for choosing ship perks in your own class. The ship-perk slots are not perk names or a claim that one effect is best for every class.

The ranking weighs how often a perk helps, the time or effort it can save, and how well a ship perk supports the build it belongs to. ROCKFISH Games’ community guide page points players toward multiple builds for each ship class and endgame suggestions rather than prescribing one universal perk order. A Steam discussion from April 15, 2023 offers class-specific player opinions, but it is anecdotal and may no longer reflect current balance.
The 10 best perk priorities
1. Tareen — Resource Selling
Prioritize this if you regularly gather resources or crafting components and want a convenient way to turn surplus into credits. ROCKFISH Games’ March 2024 Armed & Dangerous update announcement says this perk opens trader contacts, letting you sell gathered resource items and crafting components while docked at stations with stores. Its value is practical and recurring when you collect items to sell; it is not a combat upgrade.

#1 Best Overall
- Encounters expansion included: encounters is the first major expansion for ever space, enriching the game world with new story characters and quest lines, a brand-new player ship, freighter-loads of novel equipment, additional enemies, and much more.
- The sound of ever space: this original soundtrack contains more than 60 tracks, adding up to a duration of over three hours in total.
- Enhance your home screen with animated wallpapers, epic background music as well as custom icons and sounds.
2. Khala — Supra Vision
Choose this when exploration and cleanup matter to you. The same update announcement describes Supra Vision as revealing the locations of some remaining secrets after you have collected most secrets in an area. It points you to locations, not solutions, and the number revealed depends on how many secrets that area contains. It is therefore a late-stage exploration aid, not a substitute for finding every secret from the start.
3–10. Ship perks that reinforce your class and build
For the remaining priorities, use the ship perks available to your chosen class rather than copying a list made for a different ship. The evidence here does not establish eight named ship perks and their current effects, so these are selection priorities, not invented perk entries.

- Developer stories
- Environment, ship, character, and weapon concepts
- First pick: reliable payoff for your main build. Favor an effect that directly supports how you deal damage, survive or control encounters in your chosen class.
- Second pick: reinforce the class mechanic. Look for a perk whose benefit naturally follows from how your ship plays, rather than one that requires an awkward change in tactics.
- Third pick: improve consistency. A dependable benefit across ordinary fights can be more useful than a conditional effect that only shines in a narrow situation.
- Fourth pick: cover a real weakness. If your build has a recurring survival or handling problem, consider a perk that addresses it instead of stacking more of what already works.
- Fifth pick: support your preferred encounter range or rhythm. Compare perks against the distances and engagement patterns you actually use with that class.
- Sixth pick: complement your other choices. Assess the effect as part of the whole build; an individually attractive perk may add little if another choice already covers the same need.
- Seventh pick: consider conditional effects only when you can trigger them. Their value depends on whether your normal play reliably meets their conditions.
- Eighth pick: experiment with the remaining slot. Once core needs are covered, test a situational or preference-driven option and keep it only if it improves your own play.
ROCKFISH Games announced that the Armed & Dangerous update added two companion perks and four new ship perks for each ship class. Those counts describe additions in that update; they do not establish present-day balance or a ranking. Check the current in-game perk descriptions before spending upgrade resources, since older player recommendations and update notes may not match the current version.
How to choose perks for your ship
- Start with the class. A perk recommendation for one ship may not transfer to another because the classes have different mechanics.
- Define the build’s job. Decide whether you want to emphasize damage, survivability, control or another role before comparing effects.
- Read the current description. Use the in-game wording to confirm what the perk does and any conditions it requires.
- Compare practical frequency. Ask how often the effect will matter in the encounters and activities you actually play.
- Use class-specific build guidance as a starting point. The official community guides page links to build resources; treat recommendations as options to evaluate, not a mandatory perk order.
What the sources can—and cannot—establish
The update announcement documents the functions of Supra Vision and Resource Selling and records what the Armed & Dangerous update added. It is historical documentation, not evidence that those effects remain unchanged or outperform every alternative today. The 2023 Steam discussion provides player opinions organized by ship class, not a current consensus. For a final choice, the current in-game description is the relevant check.
