Risk of Rain 2 has 18 playable survivors when you count the current Steam-listed base roster and all three expansions: 11 in the base game, plus seven across Survivors of the Void, Seekers of the Storm, and Alloyed Collective. The roster below separates survivors by the content that adds them, so you can see which require DLC.

Steam’s current listing describes the base game as having 11 playable survivors. Their names are:

Steam’s current Risk of Rain 2 listing supplies the base-game count. An official Steam announcement’s survivor-skin list corroborates the names.
Survivors of the Void survivors
This expansion adds two survivors:
- Railgunner: A precision-focused survivor who uses scoped shots and weak points. The official DLC page describes her as the “ultimate boss killer” and says she is unlocked instantly for DLC owners.
- Void Fiend: A survivor whose abilities change as corruption takes hold. The official DLC page says to unlock Void Fiend by overcoming a new threat in the expansion.
Survivors of the Void on Steam describes both characters and their unlock conditions.

Seekers of the Storm survivors
The expansion adds three survivors: Seeker, CHEF, and False Son. Nintendo confirms the three-survivor count and describes a journey across the Colossus to confront False Son. The official Steam announcement corroborates all three names, but the consulted official pages do not establish complete ability profiles or individual unlock steps.
Alloyed Collective survivors
The latest expansion adds Operator and Drifter. According to 2K’s update notes published November 17, 2025, Operator is unlocked by default for Alloyed Collective owners, while Drifter is unlockable.

Do you need DLC to select its survivors?
Yes. Nintendo’s listing distinguishes survivor access from shared lobby content: players must own the relevant DLC to select its survivors. However, only one member of a lobby needs to own DLC to enable that expansion’s monsters, levels, and items for the lobby.
Nintendo’s digital Switch bundle listing includes the base game and all three expansions and gives a Switch release date of February 5, 2026. That listing applies to its Nintendo Switch product and should not be taken as a statement about availability or editions on other platforms.

How many survivors are in Risk of Rain 2?
Using Steam’s current base-game count, the total is 18: 11 in the base game, two in Survivors of the Void, three in Seekers of the Storm, and two in Alloyed Collective. There is a source discrepancy: Nintendo Australia’s base-game page says 10, while Steam’s current listing says 11. Neither page explains the difference, so the total here follows Steam’s current count rather than treating the figures as reconciled.

Survivors have distinct combat styles, but the official pages consulted here do not provide enough detail to rank all 18 or give a complete build guide. When comparing characters, consider whether you prefer ranged or close-range combat, mobility, crowd clearing or single-target damage, and whether a survivor requires DLC or a challenge unlock. Railgunner’s scoped precision and Void Fiend’s corruption-driven changes are two documented examples of different approaches.
