Spoilers for Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree: Marika is the center of the major demigod family tree. Her union with Godfrey begins the Golden Lineage; her later union with Radagon connects her to Malenia and Miquella, while Radagon’s children with Rennala become her stepchildren. The complication is that Radagon and Marika are revealed to be the same being.
The demigod family tree at a glance
The family is easiest to follow as three parent pairings, with Marika linking two of them. Godfrey’s branch is the Golden Lineage. Rennala’s children belong by birth to the Carian royal family through Radagon and Rennala; they become Marika’s stepchildren when Radagon marries her. Malenia and Miquella are children of Marika and Radagon.
| Branch | Named parents | Named demigods in the branch | Relationship to Marika |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golden Lineage | Marika + Godfrey, First Elden Lord | Godwyn, Morgott, Mohg; Godrick is a later descendant | Godwyn, Morgott, and Mohg are in Marika and Godfrey’s line. Godrick is not their child. |
| Carian royal family | Radagon + Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon | Radahn, Rykard, Ranni | They are Marika’s demigod stepchildren, not her biological children. |
| Marika and Radagon | Marika + Radagon | Malenia, Miquella | They are identified as children of Marika and Radagon. |
Marika and Godfrey: the Golden Lineage
Marika and Godfrey, the First Elden Lord, are described as founders of the Golden Lineage. Godwyn, Morgott, and Mohg are named demigods in this branch. Godrick belongs later in the line: he is a descendant, not one of Marika and Godfrey’s children.
Radagon and Rennala: the Carian branch
Radahn, Rykard, and Ranni are the children of Radagon and Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Their birth family is the Carian royal family, not a biological branch of Marika. After Radagon married Marika, the three were treated as Marika’s demigod stepchildren. Calling them her children without that distinction can make the tree misleading.

Marika and Radagon: Malenia and Miquella
Malenia and Miquella are identified as the twin prodigies born to Marika and Radagon. Their parentage is explicit in the family account; it is not the same kind of connection as Radahn, Rykard, and Ranni’s stepchild relationship to Marika.
Why Marika and Radagon appear in two pairings
The story reveals that Radagon and Marika are the same being. That means the names appear in both the Radagon–Rennala pairing and the Marika–Radagon pairing, even though a conventional family chart would normally treat them as separate people. The reveal should be stated plainly, but it does not by itself justify inventing a precise chronology or mechanism for how the union and parentage worked.
How the family connects to the Shattering
Bandai Namco’s official game synopsis says: “Marika’s offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the ELDEN RING known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering.” This connects the demigod generation to the conflict that defines the game’s history. The synopsis makes a collective statement; it should not be stretched into a claim that every named demigod personally claimed a Great Rune.

The expansion’s official description calls the Land of Shadow the place “Where the goddess Marika first set foot.” It also says Miquella departed for that land after divesting himself of “his lineage” and other attributes. Those details make the expansion central to Marika’s and Miquella’s stories, but the official description is not a complete family chart.

Do not treat every lineage diagram circulating online as settled canon. In particular, parentage claims for Messmer or other expansion-era characters should be presented as theories unless supported by specific in-game text or dialogue. The expansion description alone does not resolve every such relationship.
