The base-game Borderlands 4 campaign has 21 main story missions across four regions. The list below covers the base game—not the additional story missions in Story Pack 1—and groups missions by region because the campaign branches rather than playing as one uninterrupted sequence.

How the campaign mission order works

The regional grouping is a useful way to read the mission list, but it is not a strict step-by-step order for the entire campaign. After “A Lot to Process,” story chains open across three regions, and you can progress through those chains before reaching Dominion. Guides differ on the precise point at which full inter-region switching becomes available, so use the mission log in-game to see what you can pursue at your current stage. PowerPyx’s mission guide notes that some main missions can be completed in a different order.

Why some lists say there are 25 missions

Some walkthroughs show 25 entries because they include four post-campaign Ultimate Vault Hunter activities alongside the 21 campaign missions. Those activities are not part of the main story mission count:

• Ultimate Vault Hunter: Zane’s Firmware
• Ultimate Vault Hunter: Maurice’s Bounty
• Ultimate Vault Hunter: Big Encore
• Ultimate Vault Hunter: Wildcard Missions

The campaign arc ends with “Secrets of the Vault.” Counting the four Ultimate Vault Hunter entries as separate campaign missions mixes post-campaign content into the story total.

Story Pack 1 adds separate story missions

The 21-mission list above is for the base-game campaign, not every story mission released for Borderlands 4. 2K Support’s March 26, 2026 update identifies Story Pack 1 as Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. It adds the Whispering Glacier map zone along with story missions, side missions, activities, and collectibles. The update does not name those individual story missions.

To access that pack’s content, players need to own Story Pack 1 and complete “A Lot to Process” in The Fadefields. The update recommends level 13 or higher. These requirements apply to Story Pack 1 content, not the base-game mission list.
