Who is Waylay?
Riot describes Waylay as a Thai prismatic Radiant and assigns her to the Duelist role. Her character concept centers on turning into light, darting into combat, striking with light shards, and moving back to safety. Her kit is built around mobility and Hinder, a slowing effect that makes affected players less mobile.
Waylay began rolling out to players across regions at 9:00 AM PT on March 5, 2025, following Riot’s Patch 10.04 announcement published the previous day. Riot’s Patch 10.04 notes describe her original abilities and rollout.
What do Waylay’s abilities do?
Saturate
Riot’s Waylay agent page describes Saturate as a thrown cluster of light that explodes when it hits the ground and Hinders nearby players, slowing their movement and weapon handling. The page labels the cast “INSTANTLY,” but Riot’s later Patch 12.06 search result reported a change from INSTANT to EQUIP. Because those descriptions conflict, do not rely on the agent page for the current cast mode; check the in-client description. The agent page is useful for the broad effect, not a guaranteed current stat sheet.

Lightspeed
Lightspeed is Waylay’s movement tool. Riot’s agent page describes preparing and firing an afterimage that projects a beam, then grants a speed boost and expands an area that Hinders opponents. In her original launch kit, Lightspeed was a burst-of-speed dash with two-fire and alternate-fire options, according to Patch 10.04. Treat those launch details as historical rather than a complete description of the live version.
Refract
Refract gives Waylay a way to reposition back toward a placed beacon. In the launch version, she placed the beacon and could reactivate the ability to speed back to it while invulnerable during transit, as described in Patch 10.04. This creates a natural entry-and-return pattern: commit toward a fight, then use the beacon to retreat if the situation allows. The exact timing and present-day behavior should be checked in the current client.

Convergent Paths
Convergent Paths is Waylay’s ultimate. Riot’s Patch 11.08 notes document changes to its cast and tuning, including removing Waylay’s afterimage and cast pushback, adding temporary movement and aim-rotation restrictions during the cast, shortening the Hindered effect and initial windup, narrowing its width, and reducing its movement-speed buff. Those are documented changes from that patch, not a complete specification of every live interaction.
How to think about Waylay’s kit in a round
A useful way to evaluate her abilities is to separate four jobs: getting into a fight, disrupting opponents with Hinder, preserving a route back out, and managing the danger of committing to an entry. Lightspeed supports movement; Saturate and Convergent Paths apply area pressure; Refract provides the return option described in the launch notes. The value of that combination depends on timing and coordination, not mobility alone: a fast entry can still leave Waylay exposed if teammates cannot follow or the return route is unsafe.

Riot’s Patch 11.00 notes said Waylay had a steep mastery curve: her win rate improved as players played more games, while Riot considered her slightly weak across skill levels at that time. Riot said the patch aimed to improve fighting after Lightspeed, make Refract easier to play around, improve flow, and strengthen Saturate. This is Riot’s assessment from June 24, 2025—not a current ranking or an independently measured win-rate figure.

Riot’s official patch index lists Patch 13.06, dated September 22, 2026, after Patch 13.05. The retrieved Patch 13.06 article does not document a Waylay balance change.
