Sony Interactive Entertainment later reported that the Las Vegas event drew over 50,000 attendees from 63 countries, while Evo separately recorded 10,240 individual players and 16,252 game-bracket entries. Those figures measure different things, so they do not establish that 60,000 people attended.
What did the 60,000-plus figure mean?
GamesBeat published the expectation on July 16, 2024, ahead of EVO 2024, which ran July 19–21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The figure described expected attendance; it was not a final count. GamesBeat’s July 16, 2024 report also described EVO—the Evolution Championship Series—as the largest fighting-game event ever, but “largest” depends on what is being counted.
How many people attended EVO 2024?
Sony Interactive Entertainment reported that EVO 2024 had over 50,000 attendees from 63 countries. That is the available post-announcement attendance figure, but Sony’s statement does not provide an exact final headcount or confirm that attendance reached 60,000. Sony’s Louis Figueroa, senior director of global esports and competitive gaming, said: “For the second year, Evo 2024 broke the world registration record for an in-person esports event, with over 10,000 registrants and over 50,000 attendees from 63 countries around the world.” Sony Interactive Entertainment’s July 16, 2024 preview
Why are the player and bracket numbers different?
Evo’s official event history lists 10,240 individual players and 16,252 bracket entries for EVO 2024. A player could enter more than one game, so bracket entries count registrations across tournaments, not unique people. Neither figure is the same as the event’s total attendance, which also includes people who came to watch or participate in other parts of the show. Evo’s event history

Was EVO 2024 the largest fighting-game event ever?
The headline’s claim is best understood as a statement about the scale expected for the 2024 Las Vegas event, not as a proven all-time record for total attendance. Attendance, unique competitors, bracket entries, and the size of a single game’s tournament are separate measures. The cited figures do not provide consistently defined all-attendee totals across events, so they cannot establish a definitive ranking of every EVO or fighting-game event by attendance.

Later figures illustrate why the event, year, location, and metric matter. EVO Las Vegas remains a multi-game event: its official 2026 page describes 12 tournaments, a vendor hall, and an arcade with more than 300 cabinets. Its 2026 Viewer’s Guide lists 2,414 Street Fighter 6 competitors in Las Vegas. Evo’s official event page Evo’s 2026 Viewer’s Guide

EVO Japan 2026 is a different event in a different location. Capcom reported approximately 34,000 visitors and 9,717 cumulative players from 71 countries and regions. It also said the Street Fighter 6 tournament had 7,168 competitors and received Guinness recognition as the largest tournament for a single fighting video game. These Japan figures should not be treated as Las Vegas attendance or as evidence of a total-attendance record for EVO 2024. Capcom’s May 20, 2026 announcement
