What is Exoprimal?
Capcom describes Exoprimal as an online, team-based action game in which players take the role of exofighters confronting dinosaur outbreaks. The game was released on July 14, 2023, and Metacritic lists versions for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. Capcom’s announcement introduced the game on March 10, 2023.

What score did Exoprimal get?
Metacritic’s PS5 critic page displays a 67 Metascore, labeled “Mixed or Average,” from 53 shown critic reviews. Its displayed review distribution is 15 positive (29%), 36 mixed (69%) and 1 negative (2%). Those category counts add up to 52, not 53, so they should be read as the figures shown on the page rather than a complete partition of its stated review total. The PS5 critic page was accessed in 2026.
Metacritic’s overview page also displays a 67, but bases it on 52 critic reviews. The score agrees across the two pages; the review counts do not. These are page-specific aggregator snapshots, not a single combined count, and the figures may change over time.

What did critics like about Exoprimal?
Positive reviews focused on the game’s unusual premise and the kinetic spectacle of fighting dinosaur swarms with a team of specialized exosuits. Some critics said the action becomes more compelling after the early matches, as players encounter more of the game’s variety. We Got This Covered’s July 18, 2023 review called it a game that “makes a terrible first impression” but can blossom into a “ludicrously fun shooter” for players who persist. Digital Trends similarly wrote on July 20, 2023 that patient players could uncover a “shockingly innovative multiplayer shooter.” Both excerpts appear on Metacritic’s PS5 review listing.
Why were Exoprimal reviews mixed?
The central criticism is the gap between the game’s energetic premise and how its opening stretch plays. Critics described early matches as repetitive or limited, making the initial experience a test of patience before more variety arrives. Some reviews also raised concerns about class balance, the breadth of modes and content, and whether there is enough to sustain long-term play.

The disagreement is less about whether the premise is distinctive than about how long players must wait for its potential to show, and whether the later experience offers enough to keep them engaged.

The reviews suggest it is most appealing to players who enjoy cooperative, team-based action and are willing to work through a repetitive opening in search of later variety. Players who want a broad selection of modes or a consistently fresh experience from the start may be less convinced. The 67 Metascore is a useful signal of that qualified reception, not a guarantee that every player will value the same trade-offs.
