Expeditions: Samurai received its first major Early Access update, version 0.6.0, on September 30, 2026. Update 1 adds customization and loot, changes stealth and combat balance, and introduces quality-of-life improvements. THQ Nordic also listed known issues at release, including a save-loading crash in a specific Nagasaki Harbour scenario and several co-op problems.
What Update 1 adds
THQ Nordic describes version 0.6.0 as a response to initial player feedback. The additions span character appearance, equipment, animation, and in-world interactions.
Character and presentation options
- Two new European heads for each gender and two new European hairstyles for either gender.
- New heads for older Japanese NPCs and a new hairstyle for a Japanese NPC.
- A “Ronin” outfit worn by Kage and ronin-type enemies.
- New music variations, dialogue-expression animation poses, and status effects for certain mini-bosses.
Items and interactions
- Five unique items for Act 1, six armor or helmet additions to loot tables, and ten weapon variations.
- Barrels can now be carried, including gunpowder barrels that players can place near patrolling enemies.
- New scavenging and pickpocketing opportunities are available in particular areas. In Act 1, players can also give Captain van Renesse’s letters to Johan.
How stealth and combat changed
The update adjusts stealth so takedowns use walking or sneaking speed instead of making the character run. It also makes combat harder to manipulate through repeated surprise attacks: enemies who see an ally killed enter combat immediately, and sneak attacks can no longer be repeatedly used to stun-lock enemies. Surprise Attack no longer benefits attacks against aware enemies and has a reduced effect on ranged stealth attacks.
Party size increases to six in a list of named levels, with enemy numbers raised to match. The patch also makes broad and class-specific stat adjustments, including ranged-weapon nerfs, changes to some weapon types, increased enemy health, and adjustments to Piet’s Passata Soto ability and the Effective and Ineffective status effects. Loot tables award more mon.

Known issues listed at the 0.6.0 launch
THQ Nordic said it would not delay Update 1 for several outstanding problems and listed them for future attention. The announcement’s list describes the state at release; it does not establish whether later hotfixes have resolved any of them.
- Item-ability tooltips can be inaccessible in the trading window, and ability hotbar ordering can occasionally be wrong.
- Some UI sounds may ignore master volume; scroll bars have problems; dialogue conditions may display incompletely; and a door can be clipped through.
- A crash can occur after loading a save in Nagasaki Harbour after trading.
- Gamepad input can be affected by alt-tabbing during a loading screen.
- Co-op has reconnection and client-visibility problems.
What was announced for later
The Update 1 announcement previews character-creation changes, facial hair for two characters, children, more items, improved theft logic, better rain effects, and improved lighting in overcast weather. These are plans described in the announcement, not features identified as delivered in version 0.6.0.

What kind of game is being updated?
Expeditions: Samurai is labeled Early Access on its Steam store listing, which describes it as a party-based RPG set in Sengoku-era Japan with stealth, diplomacy, and violence as approaches to play. Version 0.6.0 is therefore an update during development, not a final-release patch.
