Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy is the better all-around gaming chip in the Galaxy S24 family. It generally delivers higher peak performance in conventional games, CPU-heavy titles and emulation. The Exynos 2400 has a narrower advantage in some ray-tracing and sustained-stability tests, but that does not make it the faster gaming platform overall. In games capped at 60 frames per second, the difference may be difficult to notice; in long, demanding or high-refresh sessions, the Snapdragon model is the safer choice.
Which Galaxy S24 gets Exynos and which gets Snapdragon?
There is no single hardware version of “the Galaxy S24.” Samsung split the processors by model and market.
| Phone or market | Processor |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S24 and S24+ in the United States, Canada, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy |
| Galaxy S24 and S24+ in many other markets | Exynos 2400 |
| Galaxy S24 Ultra | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy worldwide |
| Galaxy S24 FE | Exynos 2400e, a different chip |
Samsung’s launch material identifies the regional S24/S24+ platform split and positions the Ultra as a Snapdragon model (Samsung’s Galaxy S24 announcement). Do not use an S24 Ultra result as proof of how a base S24 Exynos compares with a base S24 Snapdragon: the Ultra has a different chassis, battery and cooling system.

What each chip brings to gaming
Exynos 2400 and Xclipse 940
The Exynos 2400 uses Samsung’s Xclipse 940 GPU, based on AMD RDNA 3, with hardware-accelerated ray tracing (Samsung Semiconductor specifications). That architecture is the reason Exynos can look unusually strong in ray-tracing-focused tests.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy
The S24’s Snapdragon is a Samsung-tuned “for Galaxy” implementation of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In published comparisons it usually leads in conventional CPU and GPU workloads, giving games and emulators a higher performance ceiling. Samsung marketed the platform for demanding, sustained use in its launch announcement.
Specifications alone do not determine frame rates. Drivers, game-engine optimization, firmware, display settings, thermals and the exact phone model all affect the result.
What published gaming tests show
Independent testing points to a consistent pattern: Snapdragon wins more ordinary gaming workloads, while Exynos can win selected ray-tracing or stress measurements.

| Evidence | Reported result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Tom’s Guide comparison of Exynos S24 and Snapdragon model | Snapdragon ahead in Geekbench and many gaming results; Exynos remained fast enough that the practical gap could be modest in some supported games | Useful for overall performance, but not a universal frame-rate percentage (Tom’s Guide) |
| Android Authority comparison | Snapdragon stronger for gaming overall; Exynos stronger in some ray-tracing stress tests | Shows why peak performance and stability are separate metrics (Android Authority) |
| SamMobile Genshin Impact test | Exynos S24 performed similarly to a Snapdragon-powered S24 Ultra in that test | Game-specific parity, not proof that Exynos wins every title (SamMobile) |
| Tech Advisor testing of S24+ variants | Exynos described as a modest overall step down rather than a catastrophic gaming downgrade | Many owners will still get a very capable gaming phone (Tech Advisor) |
These are reported results from different phones, software builds and test conditions. They should not be combined into one universal percentage.
Ray tracing is Exynos’s real advantage
In 3DMark Solar Bay and similar ray-tracing-focused workloads, the Xclipse 940 can match or beat the Snapdragon GPU. That is a legitimate architectural strength, but Solar Bay is a synthetic test rather than a complete sample of Android gaming.
A ray-tracing lead matters only when all of the following are true:
Rank #3
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- The game supports hardware ray tracing on the relevant Android build.
- The feature is enabled at the same quality level on both phones.
- The game uses the renderer path that exercises the GPU’s ray-tracing hardware.
- The visual improvement is worth the added heat, battery use and possible frame-rate reduction.
Most mobile games still emphasize rasterized graphics. A higher Solar Bay score therefore does not mean higher performance in PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile, Genshin Impact or an emulator. Game-specific optimization can reverse the result.

Peak performance
Snapdragon is generally the winner when the question is “Which phone can produce more frames right now?” That matters in high-refresh competitive games, demanding non-ray-traced titles and CPU-heavy emulation.
Sustained performance
After 20 to 60 minutes, heat can reduce clocks. A meaningful comparison should report average frame rate, low points or frame-time behavior, surface temperature and battery percentage lost—not just a five-minute maximum.
Rank #4
- Width: 2.78 inches; Length: 5.79 inches; Height: 0.30 inches
Stability
Some tests show Exynos retaining a larger percentage of its starting score in a stress loop. That does not necessarily mean it produces more frames. A Snapdragon phone can start higher, throttle more, and still finish faster than an Exynos phone that maintains a lower level. “Stability” is the retained percentage; “performance” is the absolute output.
Results also vary with the base S24 versus S24+, room temperature, firmware, case, brightness, refresh rate and cooling accessories. Samsung highlighted a substantially larger vapor chamber for the S24 Ultra (Samsung), so Ultra thermals are not representative of the smaller models.

What about gaming battery life?
General battery rankings or video-playback tests cannot be converted directly into gaming endurance. Gaming drain depends on brightness, frame-rate cap, graphics quality, Wi-Fi or 5G, ambient temperature, battery health and Game Booster settings.
Best Value
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Report battery as a percentage per hour under a named setup. Without matched testing, it is safer to say that both chips can deliver strong endurance in ordinary play, while extended maximum-performance sessions will generate substantial heat and drain on either model.
How the difference appears in real games
Competitive 60, 90 and 120 fps games
Snapdragon has more headroom for high-refresh modes, but a game capped at 60 fps may look identical on both phones once each maintains the cap. Verify the exact graphics preset and supported frame-rate mode rather than assuming the highest setting is available.
Open-world games
Titles such as Genshin Impact should be judged after a long session for frame pacing and thermal behavior. A short opening run can hide throttling. Published testing has shown Exynos reaching similar Genshin performance in at least one comparison, but that is a title-specific result.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Ray-tracing games
Diablo Immortal and other games may expose a difference when ray tracing is genuinely supported and enabled. Confirm the game version and settings; support is not identical across every Android title.
Emulation
Snapdragon is the safer choice for emulation because CPU performance, graphics drivers, emulator version, renderer and game configuration all matter. Results can change substantially between Vulkan and OpenGL, builds and thermal states.
Which version should you buy?
- Choose Snapdragon if gaming is the priority, you want the highest typical frame rates, use emulators, play demanding non-ray-traced games or spend long sessions at high settings.
- Choose Exynos if it is substantially cheaper locally, you mostly play capped 60-fps games, ray tracing is a specific interest, or local warranty and carrier support outweigh the performance gap.
- Be cautious about importing. Check the exact model number, 5G and LTE bands, eSIM behavior, firmware region, Samsung Pay and call-recording features, warranty eligibility and resale value before buying.
- For used or refurbished units, inspect battery health and thermal condition. By 2026, an individual phone’s battery wear can matter more than the nominal chipset difference.
Samsung’s US launch prices were $799.99 for S24, $999.99 for S24+ and $1,299.99 for Ultra on January 31, 2024 (Samsung). Those are historical MSRPs, not current prices; Samsung’s US product page has indicated S24 and S24+ stock is sold out (Samsung US). Compare the actual country, storage tier, condition, seller and warranty at purchase.
