It places 16 entries in S+, but the best character for you depends on the mode and role you need. A newer app build is listed, but the available information does not establish whether it changed character balance, so treat these rankings as a dated snapshot rather than a confirmed October meta.
Fairy Tail Wizard Chronicle tier list: all ranked characters
The rankings below reproduce the character names and tiers in Pocket Gamer’s guide, which is an editorial list rather than an official developer ranking. Names that appear more than once, including different forms, are kept as listed; they have not been merged.
| Tier | Characters |
|---|---|
| S+ | Otherworld Adventure Erza; Pure White Oath Erza; Irene (Dragon Form); Wendy (Dragon Force); Laxus (Red Lightning Dragon Mode); Dark Mage Zeref; Jellal; Irene; First Dream Laxus; Erza Heaven-W; Wendy Marvell; Satan Mirajane; Mavis; Bunny Lucy; Cyber Rogue; Selene |
| S | Otherworld Adventure Kagura; Gemini; Pure White Oath Lyra; Gildarts Clive; Sting Eucliffe; Erza (Demon Blade Benizakura); Natsu (Dragon F.); Laxus Dreyar; Bunny Yukino; First Dream Erza; Lucy Leo Form; Gray Fullbuster; Holy Night Juvia; Gaav (D.S); Mirajane; Levy McGarden; Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki |
| S- | Holy Night Mirajane; Mystogan; Minerva Orland; Meredy; Kagura; Cyber Sting; Hades; Brandish; Silver F; Ignia; Cana Alberona; Scorpio |
| A | Kagura Mikazuchi; Ultear (Grimoire Heart); Meredy (Grimoire Heart); Laxus (base); Juvia Lockser; Larcade; Gajeel Redfox; Natsu Dragneel; Freed Justine; Mard Geer; Elfman Strauss; August; Makarov; Shagotte |
| B | Gildarts Clive; Rogue Cheney; Ichiya; Lucy Heartfilia; Ichiya (Power Perfume) |
| C | Cana Alberone; Jura Neekis; Sting Eucliffe; Sherria Blendy; Lyon Vastia |
The displayed ranking ends at C. Although the guide’s prose mentions an F tier, it does not provide an F-tier roster in its table, so none is listed here. The source also uses variants such as “Cana Alberona” and “Cana Alberone”; those spellings are preserved as they appear in their respective entries.
Which characters are worth upgrading?
Use a tier as a starting point, then consider what your team lacks and where you plan to use it. The guide’s explanations identify damage, tanking, debuffs, crowd control, healing, and buffs as distinct reasons to value units; a high rank does not mean every character fills the same job.

#1 Best Overall
- 1 box: 12 packs
- 1 Pack: 8 cards included
For damage
Jellal and First Dream Laxus are highlighted as primary damage dealers. Jellal also brings crowd control, while First Dream Laxus is described as specializing in single-target damage with area damage as well. In S, Natsu (Dragon F.) and Laxus Dreyar are noted as powerful damage dealers. Lucy Leo Form and Mirajane are described as offering sustained damage alongside utility.
For tanking and team support
Erza Heaven-W is identified as the guide’s best tank. Irene and Wendy Marvell are valued for debuffs and sustain, including healing and buffs. These roles can matter more to a team than adding another damage dealer if survival or support is the gap you need to fill.
Rank #2
- Package Dimensions: 3.2 cms (L) x 10.8 cms (W) x 13.3 cms (H)
- Product Type: Toys And Games
- Package Quantity: 1
- Country Of Origin: United States
For control and disruption
Jellal combines damage with crowd control. Gray Fullbuster and Holy Night Juvia are highlighted as S-tier debuff and control choices. More broadly, the guide describes S-tier units as useful for filling out teams with control or utility, single-target burst, or damage and disruption.
Best units for PvP and PvE
Do not treat PvP and PvE rankings as interchangeable. Pocket Gamer calls Satan Mirajane, Mavis, Bunny Lucy, and Cyber Rogue PvP meta units, while warning that their performance falls off in PvE. If you mainly play PvE, those S+ labels alone are not a reason to prioritize them over characters whose strengths fit the content you play.

For PvE, use the guide’s role descriptions to build around damage, survival, and useful support rather than assuming that a PvP standout will perform equally well. The guide does not provide a complete mode-by-mode ranking for every character, so it cannot establish a definitive PvE order for the entire roster.
How to use the list when resources are limited
The guide frames its rankings partly as a way to help free-to-play players avoid spending upgrade resources, including shards, on weak units. Since an idle RPG can gather materials and EXP through auto-battles, prioritize the units that fit your team and the mode you actually play, rather than spreading resources across every high-tier character. GOODROID’s store listing describes the game as an idle RPG with auto-battles that gather materials and EXP while players are away; it also advertises more than 80 playable characters, a developer claim rather than an independently audited count.

- Start with the role your team needs: damage, tanking, control, debuffs, or sustain.
- Check whether you are building for PvP or PvE before prioritizing a character labeled S+.
- Keep distinct forms and names separate when comparing entries; the guide ranks some repeated names in different variants or tiers.
- Use the tier list as a prioritization aid, not a guarantee that every highly ranked unit is the right investment for every team.
How current are these rankings?
Pocket Gamer updated its guide on September 16, 2026 and labeled it for version 1.26.0. An Apple App Store listing later indexed versions 1.27.0 and 1.27.1 as bug fixes, but that label does not establish whether character balance or the roster changed. The September rankings have not been verified against those later builds, so their accuracy for an October 2026 balance state is unresolved.
The game is listed by GOODROID, Inc. as a free role-playing game with in-app purchases. Its store description presents it as an idle RPG with auto-battles and more than 80 playable characters; those store details describe the product, not character balance.
