In a September 27, 2023 report, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson said the next mainline Far Cry—identified in the report as Far Cry 7 and internally as Project Blackbird—would center on rescuing the player character’s kidnapped family. The family was described as wealthy, and the group allegedly responsible was named the “Sons of Truth.” These details were attributed to unnamed sources, not announced as Ubisoft canon. How would the reported rescue system work?
Family members could be rescued in any order
The report described a nonlinear story in which the player would not have to rescue family members in a fixed sequence. It also said some relatives could die, with those outcomes affecting the story; the reported goal was to save every family member safely. The report did not establish exactly how each death would change the narrative.
A 24-hour real-time deadline
According to the same report, the rescue window would be 72 in-game hours, equivalent to 24 hours in real time. The clock was said to pause while the player was in a safehouse. This is a reported mechanic, not a confirmed Far Cry 7 feature.

Interrogations would help locate relatives
The report also described a new interrogation mechanic for finding family members. Enemies might give information, lie, stay silent, or escape. It did not explain how often each response would occur or how the mechanic would work in practice.
What did the later report say about development?
On December 16, 2024, Insider Gaming reported that Far Cry 7/Project Blackbird and a separate extraction shooter called Maverick were still in development. It said their internal release timing had moved from 2025 to 2026 because of development complexity, and again characterized Blackbird as a family-rescue story with a 24-real-time-hour limit. The report also alleged changes to movement, inventory, and looting systems. These were outlet-reported internal details, not an official Ubisoft schedule or feature list.
