Use FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 before the audio input’s -i to repeat a Tibetan singing bowl recording indefinitely. For a conservative YouTube Live setup, send it with a still or looping visual, configure the channel’s RTMPS stream URL and private key, then confirm the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before going live.
Build the FFmpeg command
This example loops an audio file and a visual file separately, maps the visual’s video and the bowl recording’s audio, and sends the result to YouTube over RTMPS:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i bowl-audio.mp3 -stream_loop -1 -i still-image.mp4
-map 1:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
This is a starting pattern, not a tested command. Replace both input paths and the RTMPS destination with the values shown for your stream in YouTube. The visual input can be a video loop rather than a still-image video. Your FFmpeg build must support the selected options and codecs. FFmpeg documents its command-line inputs and outputs, looping option, and RTMP muxer in its official documentation.
What the important options do
-rereads file input at real-time pace, which is appropriate when feeding a live endpoint instead of processing the file as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1asks FFmpeg to loop that input indefinitely. Put it before the corresponding-i; the example applies it separately to both files.-map 1:v:0 -map 0:a:0explicitly selects video from the second input and audio from the first.-r 30 -g 60sets 30 frames per second and a 60-frame GOP, yielding a two-second keyframe interval.-c:v libx264encodes H.264 video;-pix_fmt yuv420pselects a widely supported pixel format.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes AAC audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz.-f flvselects the FLV container used for RTMP-family streaming. The destination shown uses RTMPS.
Choose how to combine the audio and visual
You can stream separate audio and visual inputs, as in the command above, or make one video file that already contains the bowl audio and loop that single file. YouTube’s cited encoder guidance does not prescribe one arrangement; choose according to how you prepare and maintain the content.

| Arrangement | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Separate audio and visual inputs | Explicit mapping lets you choose the bowl recording’s audio and the visual file’s video independently. Check that the visual remains available for the full broadcast and inspect each file’s duration and loop behavior. |
| One prepared video with audio | There is only one input to loop, but you must prepare the audio and visual together and check the finished file’s loop boundary. |
The cited official materials do not establish whether YouTube will accept an audio-only RTMP encoder feed. Include a static or looping visual unless you have separately confirmed audio-only ingest for your setup.
Set YouTube’s encoder destination and go live
- Prepare the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream and open its encoder settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Use the destination values shown for that stream in the command. YouTube describes the key as the information that lets its service accept the encoder feed.
- Keep the key private. Do not put it in a public page, screenshot, repository, or shared command history. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Start FFmpeg. Watch its output for errors while it connects and sends the feed.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. For a scheduled stream, YouTube may require you to select “Go live” after the preview appears. Follow the control room’s current prompts.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted form of RTMP, for encoder streaming. Use the protocol and destination it supplies, and consult its current encoder setup instructions for the workflow.

Match the encoder settings to YouTube’s guidance
The example’s keyframe interval is two seconds: at 30 fps, 60 frames take two seconds. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and sets four seconds as the maximum for RTMP/RTMPS. Its guidance also recommends constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo, and 128 kbps bitrate for stereo audio. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that every input or connection will behave identically; check the current encoder settings and bitrate guidance before publishing because platform specifications can change.
If you change the sample rate or bitrate, make sure the options still match your intended audio channel layout and YouTube’s current guidance. The example does not specify a video bitrate; choose one appropriate to the visual resolution and available upload bandwidth using YouTube’s current recommendations rather than guessing.

Check the loop seam and recording rights
Listen to the repeat point
Looping a file does not itself prove that the join will sound seamless. Listen through the end-to-start boundary for silence, clicks, sudden level changes, or a mismatch in duration. If necessary, edit or crossfade the source recording before streaming, then check the encoded result in the Live Control Room preview.
Confirm permission for the actual recording
The fact that a recording features Tibetan singing bowls does not establish who owns the sound recording or whether it can be broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to have necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Use your own recording or one whose license expressly permits the intended livestream and any archive, and keep a copy of the permission or license.

Plan for YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube alone if retaining the full program matters. Plan sessions shorter than 12 hours or make a separate local recording. See YouTube’s archive guidance for details.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg rejects an option or codec | The installed build or selected input does not support the command’s options or codecs. | Check the FFmpeg build and input formats; use a build that supports the required options and H.264/AAC codecs. |
| YouTube receives no feed | The destination URL or key may be wrong, or the encoder has not connected successfully. | Copy the URL and key again from the correct stream’s settings, verify the RTMPS destination, and read FFmpeg’s connection output. |
| The preview appears, but the scheduled broadcast is not live | The scheduled stream may still require an explicit start action. | Follow the Live Control Room prompt and select “Go live” if it is shown. |
| Audio or video is missing or mismatched | The wrong streams may be mapped, or the separate files may have unsuitable formats or durations. | Check input order and the explicit -map selections. Preview both streams and inspect their durations. |
| A click, gap, or volume jump occurs at the repeat point | The source file’s end and beginning do not join cleanly. | Listen to the boundary, edit or crossfade the recording if needed, and check the encoded preview. |
| The completed live archive is missing or incomplete | The stream exceeded 12 hours, beyond which YouTube says capture is not assured. | Use sessions under 12 hours or retain an independent local recording if the complete program is important. |
Or let it run in the cloud
