You can send a recorded Valorant gameplay file to YouTube as a live ingest stream with FFmpeg; Valorant does not need to be running. Configure a YouTube Live broadcast, use its current ingest URL and private stream key, and pace FFmpeg’s file input in real time with -re. The command below is a starting point for H.264 1080p30—not a universal profile—and the stream must still be made live through YouTube’s broadcast controls.
What this FFmpeg method does
FFmpeg reads a local recording and sends its audio and video to YouTube’s live ingest endpoint as the recording plays. It does not upload the file through YouTube’s ordinary video-upload interface, and it does not make a prerecorded file public on its own. You need access to YouTube Live, a configured broadcast, and the active stream key associated with it.
Use -re to read the file at approximately its native playback speed. A ten-minute recording therefore takes about ten minutes to transmit. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over an SSL connection, for live ingest. Its encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265 and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps; this example uses H.264 for a straightforward starting profile. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds.
Before you start
Prepare YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to configure a broadcast in Live Control Room. Account access and broadcast availability depend on YouTube’s current account and platform conditions.
- In the stream settings, obtain the current RTMPS ingest URL and the stream key for that broadcast. Use the values shown for your account rather than an address copied from an old tutorial; server addresses and account configuration can differ.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a credential: do not publish it in an article, screenshot, shared command, public repository or shell-history example. YouTube explains stream setup and key handling in its live streaming setup guidance.
- Check the source file and installed FFmpeg build. FFmpeg options and encoder support depend on the build. If you need to confirm source dimensions, frame rate, codecs or audio tracks, inspect the file with
ffprobebefore choosing an output profile.
Test from the actual connection
Use a speed test and judge the sustained upload capacity, not the download figure. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations are for video, so leave extra capacity for audio and network variation. Network routes and upload quality differ; the official guidance reviewed does not specify an India-only command, ingest hostname or bitrate adjustment. Test from the same Indian connection and machine or server you intend to use. YouTube recommends a test with representative audio and moving video and monitoring stream health.

FFmpeg command for a 1080p30 recording
For a source that can reasonably be encoded as H.264 1080p30 with stereo audio, start with this template. Replace both placeholders with the current RTMPS URL and stream key from Live Control Room; do not use the placeholder text literally.
ffmpeg -re -i "recording.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
The 8 Mbps video target is within YouTube’s recommended H.264 1080p30 range, but it is not a mandatory setting. Reduce it if your connection cannot sustain it reliably. The example’s 30 fps output and 60-frame GOP produce a two-second keyframe interval. The 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo AAC audio settings align with YouTube’s advanced settings guidance. RTMPS and the FLV muxer are used for this RTMP-family ingest workflow.

YouTube’s currently documented H.264 video bitrate figures are:
| Target profile | Minimum video bitrate | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help recommendations, accessed in 2026, for H.264 video—not total connection capacity. Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate together, and leave headroom for audio and fluctuations. The sample’s 8 Mbps is a moderate starting target, below the 1080p30 recommended figure; select a higher target only if your source and stable upload support it. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings for guidance that may change.

Run the stream and make the broadcast live
- Save the command locally with your real stream key handled securely. Avoid putting the key in a script or location others can read.
- Run FFmpeg and watch its output for connection or encoder errors. The process sending data to YouTube is the ingest step; it is not, by itself, confirmation that viewers can see a public broadcast.
- Return to Live Control Room. Check that YouTube receives the incoming preview and that stream health is acceptable. Confirm the broadcast’s visibility and settings, then use the YouTube controls to start the viewer-facing live broadcast when ready.
- Keep FFmpeg running for the intended duration. Because of
-re, it sends the file in real time rather than rushing through it. Confirm the broadcast ends as intended when the file completes.
Adapt the command to the recording and connection
Different source dimensions or frame rate
The example requests 30 fps but does not resize the picture. If the source dimensions differ from your intended output, inspect them first and consider adding an explicit scale filter. If the source frame rate differs, choose a conversion deliberately; variable frame rate, unusual pixel formats and source rates that do not fit the target cadence can require adjustments. Do not assume this untested template handles every file without changes.
1080p60 or a lower upload capacity
For a 1080p60 target, set the output frame rate and keyframe interval consistently: at 60 fps, a two-second GOP is 120 frames. YouTube lists 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended for H.264 1080p60. If the sustained upload cannot support your chosen video bitrate plus audio and network headroom, lower the bitrate or choose a lower frame rate or resolution. A speed test cannot guarantee the route will remain stable throughout a broadcast.

Files without audio or with unusual media properties
The sample explicitly maps a conventional audio encode and stereo output. A file with no audio track can fail because the requested audio stream is absent; inspect it with ffprobe and adapt the command to omit audio encoding when appropriate. Other codecs, pixel formats or variable-frame-rate sources may also need an explicit filter or different options. Confirm that your installed FFmpeg includes the encoder you select, such as libx264.
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube shows no incoming signal: verify the broadcast is configured, the URL and key are current and paired correctly, and FFmpeg is connecting to the RTMPS endpoint supplied by Live Control Room. Check FFmpeg’s error output for authentication or connection failures.
- The stream is unstable or YouTube reports poor health: lower the video bitrate, check sustained upload capacity from the actual connection, and run a representative test. Keep audio and network variation in the capacity budget.
- Video or audio fails to encode: inspect the file’s streams and pixel format with
ffprobe, then check encoder availability in your FFmpeg build. Files with no audio need a command that does not require an audio track. - The stream finishes too quickly: confirm that
-reappears before the input file as shown, so FFmpeg reads at playback speed. - FFmpeg is sending, but viewers cannot watch: check Live Control Room’s preview, broadcast visibility and live-start controls. Ingest and the viewer-facing broadcast are separate steps.
Copyright and YouTube policy checks
Use gameplay footage and audio you have the rights to stream, including any music or other material captured in the recording. A gameplay file being prerecorded does not exempt it from copyright rules or YouTube’s policies. Check applicable rights and review YouTube’s copyright guidance and monetization policies on reused content if monetization is relevant. These sources do not establish that a particular Valorant recording is automatically eligible for monetization or that any specific account will be approved.
