For a mostly static 1080p Hindi music visual, start with FFmpeg encoding H.264 at 30 fps, CBR 10 Mb/s, two-second keyframes, and AAC stereo at 128 kb/s and 44.1 kHz. Send it to YouTube over RTMPS. Loop both the visual and audio inputs deliberately, test the stream in YouTube Live Control Room, and confirm you have permission to stream the music.
Recommended FFmpeg settings for a 1080p music loop
This baseline suits a still artwork image or a slowly changing visual. It follows YouTube’s published live encoder guidance; it is a starting point, not a guarantee that any particular connection or FFmpeg build will sustain the stream.
| Setting | Starting point | When to adjust |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1920×1080 progressive, 30 fps | Use 60 fps only when the visual has meaningful motion and both the encoder and upload connection can sustain it. |
| Video codec | H.264 via libx264 |
Your FFmpeg build must include libx264. YouTube supports H.264 over RTMP/RTMPS. |
| Rate control and bitrate | CBR, 10 Mb/s | YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists 5 Mb/s minimum and 14 Mb/s recommended for 1080p30; its recommended value is 10 Mb/s. For 1080p60, the table lists 6 Mb/s minimum and 17 Mb/s recommended, with 12 Mb/s as the table’s recommended value. Favor 30 fps for static art; reserve 60 fps and higher bitrate for visuals that benefit from it and connections that can sustain it. YouTube encoder settings and bitrates |
| Keyframes | Every 2 seconds; GOP 60 frames at 30 fps | YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 kb/s, 44.1 kHz | Check that the source is stereo and that the encoded audio plays continuously across the loop. |
| Protocol and container | RTMPS ingest, FLV output | Use the ingest URL and stream key provided in Live Control Room. |
| Color | SDR, Rec. 709, 8-bit | These are YouTube’s recommended advanced SDR settings. |
Allow upload headroom beyond the video bitrate for audio and protocol overhead. YouTube recommends testing the connection and selecting a quality it can sustain. The bitrate is for the incoming encoder stream; YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers.
Example command: loop an image and music file
This illustrative command loops a still image and an audio file, encodes 1080p30 H.264/AAC, and sends the result to an RTMPS endpoint. Replace both placeholders with the ingest URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. The command has not been executed or tested; formats, durations, FFmpeg build options, and channel configuration may require changes for your files.

-re paces the file input at real-time speed. The still-image input loops with -loop 1; the music file loops with -stream_loop -1. At 30 fps, -g 60 sets a 60-frame GOP, or two seconds. FFmpeg documents real-time input pacing and keyframe controls; consult the FFmpeg documentation for options and behavior in your installed version.
Do not rely on a finite image input alone to keep the whole command running indefinitely. Keep a loopable video source active, as in the example. Test the exact command with your actual media before scheduling a long broadcast.

Configure and verify the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its stream URL and stream key into your FFmpeg command or configuration. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
- Check that your FFmpeg build provides
libx264and AAC encoding. Iflibx264is unavailable, that build cannot use the example’s video encoder name; install or build an FFmpeg version that includes it, or adapt the encoder settings to a supported codec. - Run a test broadcast with representative audio and video before the real event. YouTube advises testing before going live and checking stream health and messages.
- Review the Live Control Room preview for framing, continuous sound, and the expected loop. During the broadcast, keep monitoring audio/video quality and stream health. YouTube’s advice is to “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” See YouTube live streaming tips.
Choose 30 or 60 fps and a sustainable bitrate
Use 30 fps for static artwork
A still image or slow visual generally gains little from 60 fps. At 1080p30, YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 10 Mb/s, with a 5 Mb/s listed minimum. A stable 30 fps stream is usually preferable to a higher frame rate that your encoder or connection cannot hold.
Use 60 fps only when motion warrants it
For 1080p60 H.264, YouTube’s table lists 17 Mb/s recommended and 6 Mb/s minimum; its recommended-value field gives 12 Mb/s. Use 17 Mb/s only when motion justifies the extra frame rate and upload capacity can sustain it. At 60 fps, set a two-second GOP to 120 frames rather than 60. If upload capacity is tight, lower bitrate while staying above the published minimum where possible, or step down resolution or frame rate.

Hindi music rights and YouTube rules
Technical settings do not grant permission to broadcast a song. Before streaming or archiving Hindi music, verify that you have the rights or licenses needed for the composition and recording, including any rights relevant to the territories where viewers may watch. The rights for a specific track are not established by its availability online or by the fact that it is already on YouTube.
YouTube’s copyright checks and monetization policies are separate from FFmpeg configuration. A technically healthy stream can still face a claim, restriction, interruption, or monetization decision. Review the platform’s current requirements and the terms that apply to your channel and music before going live; do not assume that looping, attribution, or a live format makes copyrighted music permissible.

Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
FFmpeg reports that libx264 is unavailable |
The installed build lacks the encoder. | Use an FFmpeg build compiled with libx264, or adapt the command to an encoder available in your build. |
| The stream will not connect | Incorrect or stale ingest URL/key, or an issue with the connection or RTMPS endpoint. | Copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room, check for quoting or copy/paste errors, and review the stream-health messages. |
| The broadcast ends when the image or audio ends | A media input is finite or a loop option is missing. | Keep a loopable video source active with -loop 1 for the still, and use -stream_loop -1 for audio that should repeat. |
| Video stutters or stream health degrades | The upload or encoder may not sustain the selected resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. | Test upload speed, leave capacity for overhead, and reduce bitrate, frame rate, or resolution until the connection sustains the stream. |
| Audio is silent, cut off, or not stereo | Wrong audio mapping, unsupported source details, or a channel-layout mismatch. | Confirm the file contains the expected track, check -map 1:a:0 and the source channel configuration, then test the encoded preview. |
| Artwork is cropped, stretched, or letterboxed unexpectedly | The source image’s aspect ratio differs from 16:9, or scaling behavior does not suit it. | Check the Live Control Room preview and adjust scaling/padding for the artwork rather than assuming every image fits 1920×1080 without compromise. |
| Music is claimed or the stream is restricted | The channel may not have the necessary rights, or YouTube’s systems/policies may apply a restriction. | Check the applicable rights and review the notice in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room; encoding changes do not resolve a rights issue. |
