If an FFmpeg YouTube Live playlist stops when it reaches a filename with spaces, inspect the playlist line first—if your input is an FFmpeg concat-demuxer list. Shell quotes around the list filename do not quote the media paths written inside that list. FFmpeg’s concat-script syntax requires spaces and other special characters in those paths to be escaped or quoted. That is a likely first check, not a confirmed diagnosis: without the command and error log, the failure could instead be a missing file, path-resolution issue, incompatible clips, or a problem publishing the live output.
First confirm which playlist FFmpeg is reading
The advice about quoting paths applies to the concat demuxer, typically invoked with -f concat -i list.txt, or a script beginning with ffconcat version 1.0. A YouTube HLS/M3U8 playlist or a wrapper-generated command may follow different rules. Identify the actual input format before changing quotes or safety options.
A concat-demuxer list is a text script with a file directive for each media file. The path in each directive is parsed by FFmpeg’s concat script—not by your shell. FFmpeg’s current format documentation says: “Path to a file to read; special characters and spaces must be escaped with backslash or single quotes.” It gives this example for a space in a filename:
file '/mnt/share/file 2.wav'So, quoting the command-line input protects the playlist filename, but it does not automatically make paths inside the playlist valid. For a filename containing a single quote or other special characters, use the escaping form in the FFmpeg concat-demuxer documentation; do not assume shell escaping works inside the script.

Diagnose the failing line in order

Read the exact error and playlist entry
Find the first error in the full FFmpeg log and the corresponding
fileline. Check for missing quotes, malformed escaping, accidental characters, and whether the list-generation process changed the filename. Test the exact path, not a manually retyped approximation. -
Check the concat demuxer’s safe-path setting
The concat demuxer defaults to
safe=1. Under the documented rules, safe paths are relative, have no protocol specification, use only letters, digits, period, underscore, and hyphen, and have no component beginning with a period. A space is outside that permitted character set. For a trusted, locally controlled list,-safe 0relaxes this path validation; it does not repair a misspelled or nonexistent path. For example, the option belongs with the concat input options:
ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i list.txt ...This only illustrates option placement; it is not a complete YouTube publishing command. Confirm the syntax supported by your installed FFmpeg build.

Verify path resolution and read access
Relative paths are resolved in the FFmpeg process’s execution context. A list that works when run from one directory may fail when launched by a scheduled task, service, script, or another working directory. Confirm that each referenced file exists where the process expects it and that the process can read it. Absolute paths can help isolate a working-directory problem, but they must still follow concat-script syntax.

Check whether the clips are compatible
Getting past the filename error may reveal another issue. The concat demuxer expects the files to have the same streams, codecs, and time base. If the promo clips differ, they may need to be normalized and re-encoded through FFmpeg’s concat filter instead. See FFmpeg’s concat FAQ for the available approaches.

Separate local input failures from publishing failures
If FFmpeg opens and advances through the local files, inspect what happens next and identify the output protocol. A failure after input processing is not necessarily caused by the filename. For YouTube HLS ingestion, YouTube documents HTTP 400 for a malformed URL or an unparseable or unsupported playlist, and HTTP 401 for a corrupted or expired
cidparameter. Those server responses do not demonstrate a local concat-path parsing error. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance.
Choose a joining method that fits the clips
