FFmpeg documents those reconnect options for HTTP; RTMP publishing is a separate protocol path. First identify whether FFmpeg exited, is stuck writing, or is still running, then verify the active YouTube endpoint and stream key.
Why reconnect flags may not resume an RTMP output
FFmpeg’s protocol reference documents options including reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, reconnect_on_network_error, and reconnect_streamed in its HTTP section. RTMP is documented separately. The phrase “Reconnect automatically when disconnected before EOF is hit” describes the HTTP option in that context; it is not evidence that the same flag reconnects an RTMP publishing output.
Likewise, a timeout setting governs socket I/O waiting or error behavior; it does not, by itself, establish that FFmpeg will reopen a failed RTMP connection and resume publishing. Treat HTTP input recovery, RTMP output behavior, and restarting an FFmpeg process as separate layers.
Diagnose the failure before changing the command

ffmpeg -versionand save its complete output. Keep a copy of the complete command, but redact the YouTube stream key anywhere you share it. Capture what happens at the timeout
Save the log lines immediately before and after the first RTMP or network error. Determine whether FFmpeg exits, remains running but stops writing, or appears to recover its connection while no video resumes. These cases call for different responses: a restart mechanism cannot help a process that is still alive but blocked, and a timeout message alone does not show whether the process terminated.

Check the active YouTube stream settings
In YouTube Live Control Room, compare the output destination with the currently displayed Stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s timeout guidance says to check the correct server URL and
rtmpsprotocol, and to confirm the encoder supports RTMPS. Use the endpoint YouTube currently supplies for that stream; do not assume an older saved URL or key is still the right one.Rank #2

Confirm the protocol and build before relying on an option
Establish whether the command is using FFmpeg’s native RTMP implementation or another build configuration. Do not add HTTP reconnect flags as an RTMP-output fix unless documentation for that specific build and protocol explicitly supports it.
Choose recovery based on what FFmpeg does
If FFmpeg exits
A process supervisor or wrapper that detects the exit and starts FFmpeg again is a practical process-level recovery design. This is not an RTMP reconnect option: the restarted command must still have a valid input, the intended YouTube endpoint and key, and a live event state that accepts the restarted encoder. A process restart does not guarantee that YouTube will continue the same live event seamlessly.

If FFmpeg stays alive but output does not resume
Inspect the logs and determine whether the output write is blocked or has failed. Restarting only after process exit will not address a process that remains alive in a stalled state. The available details do not establish a universal command-line repair for this case; the exact version, build, command, and error sequence are needed to diagnose it.
If YouTube does not continue the event after a restart
Distinguish restoring the encoder connection from continuing the same YouTube live event. YouTube’s connection guidance covers RTMPS setup and timeout checks, but does not promise that an interrupted encoder session will resume the same event. Check the event’s state in Live Control Room before relying on an automatic process restart.

Do not treat the 2021 patch proposal as a current option
A 2021 FFmpeg-devel post proposed an RTMP reconnect feature with an option named rtmp_reconnect_time. A proposal is historical development evidence, not proof that the option exists or behaves a particular way in the FFmpeg release installed on your system. Verify it against documentation for your exact build before using it.
